Open-Rank Non-Tenure Track Visiting / Term Faculty Positions, ISOM - Management Information Systems

The George Mason University, Information Systems and Operations Management (ISOM) area of the School of Business invites applications for multiple open-rank non-tenure track faculty positions in Management Information Systems. To support these strategic initiatives, the School of Business is playing a significant role in three new university initiatives: the Institute for Digital InnovAtion (IDIA); the Institute for a Sustainable Earth (ISE); and the School of Computing.

ISOM Area: With over 1100 undergraduate students and 29 full-time faculty, ISOM contributes significantly to the School of Business mission of teaching and research. Broad background of ISOM faculty enables the area to support the variety of degree programs both at undergraduate and graduate level. Our faculty has been recognized with multiple awards for their research and teaching excellence.

About the Position: The term faculty position is a long-term career track. For candidates with a PhD, rank starts with Term Assistant Professor and offers advancement to Term Associate and Term Professor. Rank assignment and compensation will commensurate with education and experience (9-month salary for recent appointments of MIS term faculty with rank of term Assistant Professor has been approximately $100K). For visiting faculty, position designation will commensurate with experience (or current position).

The position begins mid-August 2021. The initial appointment will be for one academic year, with a potential opportunity for renewal. This position does not support work visa (H1) sponsorship, however visiting faculty candidates qualifying for J1 visa are eligible.

Responsibilities: The standard teaching load for a non-tenure track position is 2 to 4 courses (6 to 12 credits) per semester depending on the research qualifications of the candidate in accordance with the school's workload policy. Summer teaching for additional compensation (10% of 9-month salary for a standard 3-credit course) may be available upon successful renewal of term contract. Additional responsibilities may include conducting impactful research, participating in School/Area committees, advising/mentoring students, and interfacing with the business community.

The position involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in MIS and Business Analytics (BA) offered by the ISOM area. At the undergraduate level, the ISOM Area administers: (1) Management Information Systems Concentration; (2) Business Analytics Concentration; (3) Management Information Systems Minor, and (4) Business Analytics Minor. At graduate level, course offerings are part of: (1) MBA program; (2) MS in Technology Management; (3) MS in Management, and (4) Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics.

Required Qualifications: * PhD (in MIS or related discipline) awarded before August 25, 2021 or ABD (in MIS or related discipline such as Computer Science, IT) by August 25, 2021with a PhD completion expected by August 2022; * Commitment to excellence in teaching, including evidence of effective teaching (for current/recent PhD - evidence of having taught at least one course in MIS/Business Analytics or equivalent topic in related discipline).

Preferred Qualifications: * Research publications in MIS/Business/Technology journals (for current/recent PhD - evidence of a strong research pipeline); * Teaching potential for graduate level courses; * Teaching in at least 2 of the following subject areas: database management, programming/systems, development, business analytics/data mining/machine learning, information security; * Evidence of good citizenship in terms of school, university, and professional engagement.
