Learning Technologies Faculty Position (Term Appointment, Assistant/Associate Rank)

The George Mason University College of Education and Human Development (cehd.gmu.edu) invites applications for a full-time term (non-tenure track) faculty position focused primarily on teaching and service in the Learning Design and Technology (LDT) Program within the Division of Learning Technologies. The LDT Program is a fully accredited Master's of Science (MS) program that offers three online graduate degree options to match students' academic needs and career goals: the MS in LDT, the MS in LDT with e-Learning Graduate Certificate, and the stand-alone e-Learning Graduate Certificate. The LDT Program curriculum subscribes to the competencies set forth by the International Board of Standards for Training, Performance, and Instruction (IBSTPI), as well as advanced and managerial competencies that prepare graduates for senior roles in learning design, instructional design, UX design, learning engineering, online learning, e-Learning development, corporate training, and project management. Learning design is a rapidly growing industry that applies to all sectors of business, higher education, government, and nonprofit organizations.

Responsibilities: This is a nine-month term faculty position with a base 4-4 teaching load and additional opportunities for summer teaching. In addition to teaching, all faculty affiliated with the LDT Program have service responsibilities related to the coordination of theprogram, student advising, and online course development and revision. Teaching loads may be adjusted to reflect participation in research and externally funded activities or taking on administrative assignments that go beyond normal service responsibilities.

Required Qualifications: The Division of Learning Technologies seeks teaching faculty with demonstrated academic and professional expertise in Learning Design and Technology, particularly in the areas of instructional design, user-experience design, e-Learning design, adult learning theory, design thinking, learning analytics, performance support, and project management. The position requires teaching a variety ofcourses in the LDT Program such as instructional design, user experience design, innovations in e-Learning, learning analytics, the business of learning technologies, and project management. A doctoral degree in Instructional Technology or related field and relevant teaching experience, particularly in online learning contexts, is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in e-Learning development software such as Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate or in mobile, immersive, or AI technologies is a plus. Other preferred qualifications include a profile of demonstrated teaching excellence in university teaching and professional service, and a history of active participation and leadership in campus, community, and professional organizations.
