Responsibilities

This is a hands-on position and the candidate will be responsible for managing and guiding System Administrators(SA) in JDAO to ensure data contained in the JDAO systems and tools are secure. The Information Security Officer (ISO) provides recommendations concerning safeguarding of information systems and conducts comprehensive assessments of the management, operational, and technical security controls employed within or inherited by an information system to determine the overall effectiveness of the controls. Reviews information systems in order to identify potential security weaknesses, recommends improvements to address vulnerabilities, implements changes and documents upgrades. Provides direct support as a technical representative for ensuring security is integrated throughout the lifecycle of systems and residual risk is acceptable. Assists with the management of security aspects of the information system and performs day-to-day security operations of the systems.

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Communicating and enforcing Judiciary security policies, procedures and safeguards for all information systems in the Judiciary Data and Analysis Office (JDAO).
  • Developing and maintaining security documentation to include system security plans, incident response plans, contingency plans, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Analyzing and advising on the risk and remediation of security issues based on remediation of security issues based on vulnerability scans performed by Information Technology Security Office (ITSO).
  • Conducting periodic vulnerability scans and performing risk assessment to re-evaluate the security and risk posture of the system and mitigation strategies as well as to assess the impact of new requirements.
  • Initiating coordination and tracking remediation of security weaknesses as they are discovered in Plan of Actions and Milestones (POA&M).
  • Assisting with investigations into security violations related to information systems under their purview; ensuring corrective actions are implemented and information security incidents are handled in accordance with Judiciary policies and procedures.
  • Reviewing planned application and information system changes and assess security impact.
  • Assisting with the development, implementation, and enforcement of any new and/or existing security policies and procedures.
  • Conducting meetings and briefings with JDAO Management, Business Owners and System Owners on the state of security for the systems under their purview.

  • All new AO employees must identify a financial institution for direct deposit of pay before appointment.
  • You will be required to serve a trial period if selected for a first-time appointment to the Federal government, transferring from another Federal agency, or serving as a first-time supervisor. Failure to successfully complete the trial period may result in termination of employment.
  • If appointed to a temporary position, management may have the discretion of converting the position to permanent depending upon funding and staffing allocation.
  • Relocation expenses may be provided, but only if authorized by the Director of the AO.


  • Qualifications

    Applicants must have demonstrated experience as listed below. This requirement is according to the AO Classification, Compensation, and Recruitment Systems which include interpretive guidance and reference to the OPM Operating Manual for Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions.

    Specialized Experience : Applicants must have at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position. Specialized experience is demonstrated experience supporting the Federal government, as an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) or managing an information security program for IT applications and infrastructure.
