About the Position: This position is for a Telecommunications Specialist with the US Army Space & Missile Defense Command, Deputy Chief of Staff, G-6/CIO, 1st Space Brigade, 53rd Signal Battalion located at Fort Detrick, MD.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice and instructions to other satellite controllers on technical work and operational processes.
  • Evaluate the performance of software and hardware in all WSOC information systems within the area of operations.
  • Assist in fault isolation of circuits to ensure positive control of the DSCS/WGS satellite system and associated wide area networks (WANs).
  • Study and analyze functions and activities and assesses and reviews completed missions, activities, and events to determine successes and failures.
  • Support Force Modernization fielding efforts at the local site.

This position MAY be scheduled to transfer to the United States Space Force, in the Department of the Air Force, no later than 30 September 2022 in accordance with the provision of Section 1707 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020, Public Law 116-92. Upon transfer, employees will become Space Force employees, serviced by the Department of the Air Force.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. General Experience: Three years progressively responsible experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to the GS-04 grade level, which includes experience utilizing satellite communications (SATCOM) systems and their relationship to other telecommunications networks, systems and equipment; experience operating satellite control procedures and functions; experience to manually compute technical satellite link configurations such as azimuth and elevation angles, number of circuits, uplink power values and multi-satellite links in a common transponder; AND training in Army's Satellite Network Coordinator course resulting in the award of the Additional Skill Identifier (ASI) 1C or equivalent coursework.

This definition of general experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (NH-01).

OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study in satellite communication, satellite engineering, space science, physics, mathematics, computer science, telecommunications management, information systems management, or other fields related to the position to be filled.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 36. Then divide your total number of completed undergraduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 120. Add the two percentages.

Education
