Summary
The incumbent serves as the Managing Editor for the English to Africa program "South Sudan In Focus", with overall responsibility for conceiving and directing the development and production of this daily complex broadcast program for radio and the Internet.

Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Manages the workings of English to Africa's broadcast and digital news efforts targeted to South Sudan audience.
Responsible for identifying and overseeing the selection and production of stories, scripts, and other audio or video content for traditional and new media platforms, under the supervision of English to Africa management.
Exercises sound editorial judgment in accordance with VOA standards. Provides editorial direction for selecting and approving subject matter to be covered.
Reviews and evaluates news sources and developments to identify items for coverage by staff and contractors, and makes assignments accordingly.
Communicates with team to ensure coverage and necessary updates are implemented and that broadcast deadlines are met.
Adjusts assignments of staff to meet changing circumstances and to ensure that specific responsibilities are delegated to those best qualified.

Qualifications
For the GS-13 grade level: Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the GS-12 or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector.
Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled.
Applicants' experience must show the following:Expert knowledge of broadcasting and journalistic news techniques, specifically, Africa and South Sudanese news experience to conceive, plan, research, write and produce highly targeted multimedia news stories and programs; Demonstrated skill in exercising editorial judgment in a fast-paced news environment; Demonstrated skill in identifying significant events and shaping coverage of those events for audiences in South Sudan and the Diaspora; and Demonstrated skill in broadcast and Internet editing to produce state of the art content.
