Due to the Pandemic, and individual states with different phases of reopening, the selectee's report date to the official duty station/facility may be delayed until such time as employees are allowed to report to the workplace. Responsibilities

We are looking for highly motivated student interns with an expected graduation beyond May 2022, to serve as a student trainee within the Information Technology, AIT Organization.

As a student trainee, the incumbent will work with other professionals from various disciplines such as IT Specialist, computer science, program analysts, etc. The incumbent will possess knowledge of basic project management techniques involving managing information technology projects to provide a unique service or product.

Assignments will include working with other professionals on the following:
  • Determining appropriate products or services with clients or customers to define project scope, requirements, and deliverables.
  • Developing, modifying, or providing input to project plans.
  • Implementing project plans to meet objectives.
  • Coordinating and integrating project activities.
  • Monitoring project activities and resources to mitigate risk
  • Implementing or maintaining quality assurance processes.
  • Making improvements, solving problems, or taking corrective action when problems arise.
  • Participating in phase, milestone, and final project reviews.
  • Identifying project documentation requirements or procedures.
  • Developing and implementing product release plans.

Performs a mixture of routine and somewhat complex tasks under the general direction of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or other more experienced employee.

Applies basic knowledge and limited experience in performing tasks.

Contacts are primarily internal to one organizational unit, with a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced employee to share basic information and to receive guidance. In some areas, may have limited contacts with external customers.

Work is reviewed regularly during assignments and at completion to ensure timeliness and all aspects of quality.

Other features of the Gateways Internship Program
  • APPOINTMENT - If selected, your temporary appointment may not exceed a total of 120 days after graduation.
  • AGREEMENT - All participants must sign a written Gateways Internship Agreement with the FAA that clearly identifies expectations of the appointment such as duties, length of appointment, work schedule, training, mentorship, etc.
  • CONVERSION - Although it is not guaranteed, an intern may be converted from the Internship program to a permanent excepted service position without further competition after successful completion of the educational program (awarding of degree), completion of a minimum of 640 hours of career-related work, required training, mentorship, and other requirements in accordance with the intern's participant agreement.
  • TERMINATION - Participation in this program may be terminated at any time.
  • TRANSCRIPTS - MUST BE SUBMITTED. IF YOU DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR TRANSCRIPTS, YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED INCOMPLETE AND WILL NOT BE GIVEN FURTHER CONSIDERATION.

Degree Requirement: course of study leading to a degree.

FV-C: To qualify for the FV-C, you must show completion of 1 full academic year of post-high school study.

Qualifying Educational Institution is any high school, home school, technical, vocational, associate, bachelor, graduate or professional school curriculum that has been approved by a State or local governing body, and/or accredited body recognized by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education.
