Responsibilities

U.S. citizens and U.S. Nationals; no prior Federal experience is required.

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-14. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
  • Take the lead, and independently work to develop, interpret, and implement standardized operating procedures and security controls for the OGEN with executive branch- wide implications.
  • Evaluate new technologies that would lead to cost-effective improvements in the OGEN and its associated security with executive branch-wide implications.
  • Identify and evaluate security vulnerabilities in the OGEN, and develop and recommend (to the CIO) both short and long term plans to minimize risk and/or system security deficiencies. Implements plans approved by the CIO.
  • Ensure the OGEN is in compliance with higher level policy directives and Executive orders governing infrastructure protection.
  • Perform needs analyses on information systems to define opportunities for unique business process solutions within the OGEN. Make recommendations to the CIO.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility at the GS-09 level in the Federal service or equivalent, which have equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Specialized experience for this position is performing IT network design and maintenance to ensure integrity and availability of system networks and data.
Examples of such experience for the GS-11 could include:
-Participating in software and network infrastructure security via the application of information security assurance policies and practices.
-Participating in the delivery of effective solutions to unprecedented conditions that may arise during a hardware or software update or migration process or similar information technology project within an organization.
-Participating in the application of network principles and methods to identify network issues, violations, and recommend corrective actions.
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work. Graduate education must be in one or a combination of the following fields: computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must also show proficiency in 1) attention to detail, 2) customer service, 3) oral communication, and 4) problem solving.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year probationary period may be required.
