Summary

The Avionics and Electrical Systems Branch is seeking a skilled individual to join their team as the Associate Branch Head, responsible for providing the technical management and supervision of the branch employees in multiple tasks related to spacecraft electrical systems, electrical ground support equipment, and electrical harnessing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and technical supervision of staff. Participate in the recruitment and training of new engineering talent; motivate technical excellence in Branch employees
  • Assist the Branch Head in all technical, operational, and administrative areas
  • Define and preside over technical, cost and schedule requirements of a variety of branch projects and new business
  • Assist the Branch Head in managing Engineering Support Service contracts and contractor team members on various ongoing projects
  • Contribute to the identification and implementation of Strategic objectives for the Branch
  • Manage Branch facilities and labs. Ensure lab space, equipment, and processes comply with NASA regulations and safety and health standards including but not limited to: lab management, calibration, workmanship, and housekeeping
  • Take a leadership role with new business, proposals, and internal research and development

Qualifications

In addition to the basic education requirement (shown below), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

To qualify you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level performing duties such as providing technical leadership for project support of electrical systems, electrical ground support equipment, or harnessing as related to design, selection, procurement, assembly, and testing; managing cost, schedule and technical deliverables to customers including other NASA centers, and/or external organizations; demonstrated presentation and communication skills to customers and senior management; consulting and advising on technical issues.

Education

You must have successfully completed a bachelor's or graduate degree with a major in either a) engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs or b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, Computer Science*, or other field of physical science.
*Note: Curriculum must include 30 semester hours of course work in a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science. Of the 30 semester hours, 15 must be in any combination of statistics and mathematics which includes differential and integral calculus.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.
