Responsibilities

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

Provide Geographic Information Systems (GIS) assistance to the Office of Policy Development and Research (PD&R) and HUD's program offices.

Conduct studies, projects and analyses using appropriate GIS techniques.

Develop and manage relevant spatial databases.

Design, code, and test web-based applications and user interfaces.
Provide systems support for GIS-related software; and monitor developments in GIS and related technologies to support PD&R's spatial research needs.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service . One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. This position is located in the Office of Policy Development and Research (PD&R). PD&R is responsible for providing advice and information to the Secretary to further his policy agenda; for maintaining current information to monitor housing needs, housing market conditions, and the operation of existing programs; and for conducting research on priority housing and community development issues.

The official duty station for this position will be in Washington, DC. Failure to report to duty at this location may be grounds for a disciplinary action, including removal.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience:

To be qualified for this position at the GS-13 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service, which is directly related to the position and has equipped the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position successfully. Specialized experience is defined as follows:
- Experience with organizational training in data geospatial analysis principles.; AND
- Experience utilizing Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) software within the geospatial environment.; AND
- Providing technical advice and guidance on data processing and program issues affecting the office.

To be qualified for this position at the GS-12 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service, which is directly related to the position and has equipped the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position successfully. Specialized experience is defined as follows:
- Geospatial data analysis, trend analysis, and advising on information gathered; AND
- Experience utilizing Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) software within the geospatial environment.

Education

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Degree: Geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.
OR
Combination of education and experience:
courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
