Summary

About the Position: The office is a high profile, fast paced environment. The dynamic is ever changing, the work tasks are very detailed, with minimal allowance for error, and the expectation is that we support our colleagues and function as a team. Physical stamina necessary as our clinical areas comprise different sites across a 240 acre campus and work routinely involves extensive walking to include both inpatient/critical care units, outpatient clinics, and support facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Requires expertise in multiple arenas and responds rapidly to changing demands, frequently under crisis conditions. Incumbent will work with military, civilian and diplomatic leaders as well as patients and their families.
  • Must have impeccable writing/grammar, multitasking abilities, and interpersonal skills. Personnel are professionally attired and comport themselves with the utmost sensitivity, calm, resourcefulness, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Conducts formal and informal briefings to Senior Leaders on the clinical care provided, ongoing complex topical research, and care delivery methodologies.
  • Directs and executes a wide-ranging protocol enterprise that incorporates diverse functions and issues; serves numerous distinct and specialized audiences.
  • Executes comprehensive and educational familiarization visits for appointed/elected officials, Flag/General Officers, and foreign diplomatic and military leaders.
  • Educates/informs distinguished visitors on the care we deliver, research programs that inform our care, innovations in care and the expansive construction underway at the MTF.
  • Expertise required for execution of military events, ceremonials, flag protocol, coordination of large scale top-level meetings on global topics and emergent health care requirements.
  • Consults on and independently provides education on protocol customs, courtesies, and regulations/policies.
  • Actively engages with and support patients of all ages and all stages of care and recovery, and their families.
  • Develops detailed Leadership and Distinguished Visitor Read-Ahead Packets.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes which includes experience in a academic medical treatment facility environment to include directing and planning multi-faceted protocol visits, events and ceremonials within a complex, acute care, healthcare environment; coordinating and attending visits and events in actual clinical treatment area; visiting with wounded, ill and injured or high-acuity patients and their families; conducting formal and informal briefings to Senior Leaders on the clinical care required, complex topical research underway and care delivery methodologies; developing detailed Leadership and Distinguished Visitor Read-Ahead Packets; providing recommendations and assisting in the establishment and ongoing refinement of an effective protocol policy; proficiency with U.S. and International Flag Protocol; interacting with high profile military, senior elected and appointed officials and international dignitaries; maintaining dignitary databases to facilitate preparation of event invitations and provide a historical overview of the leader's previous visits to inform new visits or participation in large events; and preparation of invitations, tracking of attendance, and coordination of the guest's participation.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11)
