Duties SummaryThis position is within the Office of Information Technology, Division of Information Security. The purpose of this position is to serve as the expert in the developing, planning, and management of IT security projects. The incumbent in this position reports to the Chief Information Security Officer, Director, Division of Information Security. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities Security Operations: Design and deploy security operation strategies, and methodologies and techniques to enhance information security and information assurance programs across IHS and with Tribal partners. Execute risk and vulnerability assessments of planned and installed information systems to identify vulnerabilities, risks and protection needs in the Federal and Tribal partners. Provide expert technical advice and guidance to managers and IT Specialists on significant security operation activities that have been undertaken to improve cybersecurity at IHS. Partner in the development of long-range plans for IT security that anticipate, identity, evaluate and minimize risks associated with IT system vulnerabilities. Ensure the rigorous application of information security and information assurance policies and practices in the course of developing policies for and providing guidance to IHS facilities and tribal partners on the measures to be taken to reduce threats to IT resources. Information Assurance: Partner with other government agencies and tribes to establish and maintain safeguards and controls that reduce threats to the cyber infrastructure and meets all US government and industry standards for the establishment and control of information security and information assurance. Develop policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability and accessibility as required to defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks and data. Direct teams in the application of new and emerging information security concepts, principles, trends, technologies and practices in the development and application of security policies and practices. Developing long-range plans for IT security systems that minimize risks associated with IT systems vulnerabilities. Developing and/or evaluating technical and security plans and policies for adherence with appropriate technical and architectural frameworks and standards; and provide recommendations to improve protocols or implementation solutions. Leading the technical system planning, partner engagement, requirements planning, design, development, security testing, and implementation of new technologies to detect, block, or mitigate system security risks. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
