Primary Responsibilities: The successful candidate will provide hands-on support to the user community regarding optimal use of DSRC infrastructure and troubleshooting issues users experience executing advanced software codes on the HPCs. Specific daily tasks include: Assist users via phone, email or ticket system with technical issues in a timely manner. Serve as back-up to the lead user support specialist. Participate in the testing and maintenance of our HPC systems and software environment. Mandatory Skills and Abilities Possess excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to effectively interact with a highly skilled technical HPC support staff and users, internal staff, and management. Organizational skills to balance and prioritize work in a dynamic work environment, and persistence to follow-through on tasks in the face of obstacles Ability to work as part of a multi-faceted team, and leadership skills to guide and mentor the work of less experienced personnel Linux and general Unix operating systems concepts Ability to write and debug shell scripts (bash, csh) Desired skills Service desk experience Ability to write and debug interpreted languages (Perl, Python) Experience compiling, installing and maintaining COTS, GOTS, and open source software Knowledge of scientific programming applications in an HPC environment. Experience with HPC job scheduling concepts and applications, such as Altair (PBS Pro). Other Must have a CompTIA Security+ certification Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance Must be able to obtain DoD 8570 Certification (CompTIA Linux+ certification or Linux SkillPort training equivalent) Education and Experience Bachelors and three (3) years or more scientific computing experience; or recent bachelors of computer science with some experience with Linux clusters or HPCs.
