Job Details

The American Enterprise Institute's Critical Threats Project (CTP) produces detailed, objective analysis and forecasting on America's core national security challenges and concrete recommendations to address them. AEI seeks an analyst to conduct independent research, lead a team of interns, and support foreign policy scholars in advancing CTP's mission.

The analyst will conduct independent research, analysis, and writing related to al Qaeda, the Islamic State, and other Salafi-jihadi groups' activities in North, East, and West Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. Research responsibilities also include analyzing the global Salafi-jihadi movement and tracking al Qaeda and Islamic State affiliates in South and Southeast Asia. This research will include maintaining a curated dataset based on daily open-source intelligence collection and analysis. The analyst will also be responsible for: selecting, training, and developing interns; providing feedback on technological innovation projects; and providing other research and administrative support as required.

The ideal candidate is curious and self-motivated and works well on agile, collaborative, hard-working teams. They will possess excellent research, writing, and organizational skills and will readily adapt to changing research and publication needs. Demonstrated interest in foreign and defense policy is required and 1-2 years of professional analytical experience is a plus. Proficiency in Arabic (reading and listening) is highly recommended; proficiency in other languages related to CTP's research portfolios will also be considered. Successful candidates will have strong critical thinking and technological instincts and will be receptive to feedback.

AEI offers a stimulating and harmonious work environment and excellent benefits. Qualified applicants should submit an online application, complete with a resume, cover letter, transcripts, and 500-word writing sample on a topic related to the position.
