Business Analysis Manager - Data Science

The Retail Bank (RB) Data Science team has a relentless focus on the craft of modeling, coding, and innovation with a target towards continually improving customer experience and delivering value to the business. Using the latest in statistical analysis, machine learning and distributed computing technologies, you will be part of a team building the next generation of data products to enable automation and aim for the right decision at the right time for in-the-moment action. The team has a wide mandate for applied data science across Fraud, Pricing, Marketing and Operations.

As a key member of the RB Data Science team you will lead our efforts in streamlining our roadmap and the operational processes for model building. The fast pace of improvements in our data, tools and platforms eventually lead to corresponding improvements in the model building methodology. This role will lead the evolution and critical problem solving needed to realize these changes, drive adoption and realize corresponding benefits.

General Responsibilities:
  • Strategic leadership: Work with the various Data Science leaders within RDB to formulate the one to three year Data Science roadmap and plan that will drive growth, profitability, and competitive success for Capital One in the face of shifting consumer and regulatory demands
  • Operational leadership: Strong operational skills to develop key performance metrics (KPIs) and drive monthly business reviews across different Data Science initiatives
  • Problem solving: Identify impediments to the model building process and drive their resolution by working with a range of partners within the Retail Bank and across the Enterprise
  • Innovation: Manage the Data Science tools and standards team developing core assets that streamline the model build process. Coaching and mentoring associates with a goal of developing and retaining talent at Capital One
  • Partnership: Liaison with various data and platform teams within RDB and the Enterprise to bring onboard newly developed tools and standards. Plan and measure adoption and represent the Data Science feedback in these forums
  • Strategic and analytic orientation: A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation, given that a large part of the business is based on rigorous analytic marketing and credit risk management
  • Strong business judgment, leadership and integrity: He/she should be a tenacious decision maker, able to bring a healthy, aggressive, yet responsible approach to business
  • Solid people leadership experience: Ability to build and leverage the capabilities of a high-performing team, as well as business partners across the enterprise. He/she should foster innovation, drive critical decisions, hold business partners accountable, and be able to consistently deliver results
  • Strong executive communication skills: Impeccable written and oral communication credentials, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Clear results orientation: display an intense focus on achieving both short and long term goals. He/she should be able to drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment
  • Successful track record of thriving in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment. Previous consulting experience is a plus

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 2 years of experience in analysis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Business or quantitative field such as Finance, Economics, Physical Sciences, Math, Statistics, Engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in analysis
  • 2+ years of experience in financial services
  • 1+ year of experience in consulting
  • 2+ years of experience in people management
