Responsibilities

Responsible for the overall operation, management, personnel supervision and administration of a Fitness Facility that provides conditioning equipment for authorized patrons. Evaluates effectiveness and appropriateness of fitness center equipment. Answers patrons' questions regarding the proper use of all equipment. Posts written instruction and procedures for the use of equipment when necessary. Ensures that all equipment is in safe, clean and in operative condition. Conducts inspections of the equipment. Responsible for the maintenance and repair of fitness center equipment. Ensures facilities are safe, well maintained and prepared for activities or events. Ensures proper internal controls are maintained to protect property, equipment, supplies, income, records, etc. Briefs superiors, inspection officials, and other staff. Performs inspections and provides overall management of facility operations. Ensures procedural guidelines are in effect. Establishes and maintains Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and Desk Top Procedures ensuring consistent operations. Inspects facility daily ensuring safe and efficient operations. Conducts property inventories.

Maintains schedule, assists in the coordination of health promotion, physical fitness and special sports events and ensures announcements reflect current events. Maintains RecTrac records and other appropriate accounting records. Prepares financial plan, budgets, inventories, and related records and reports. Reviews the financial status of the assigned activity and recommends changes to the Department Head. Supervises employees to include: assigning and distributing work, coaching, counseling, tutoring, and mentoring employees; approving and disapproving leave, recommending and completing personnel actions, completing performance reviews, approving time and attendance, training employees, keeping abreast of and actively supporting the principles of the EEO program, and prevention of sexual harassment. Maintains personal identification information with prescribed regulations and ensures confidentiality and security of information. Safeguards sensitive information and prevents unauthorized reading, printing, retaining, copying or dissemination of information, messages, or correspondence in accordance with rules and regulations. Must be alert to alcohol abuse, and take appropriate action.

Provide World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.

Develops and ensures implementation of an activity safety program in accordance with the Base Safety Program. Conducts safety meetings at least quarterly. Advises employees of available safety regulations, instructions, materials and equipment. Promptly reports workplace accidents to the Human Resources Office. Ensures safety training is provided to employees. Complies with OASHA standards and takes action to correct unsafe or unhealthy working conditions. Ensures employees understand safety infractions that can result in disciplinary actions, and follows through with appropriate action. Ensures minimal loss of duty by complying with "Return to Work" program initiatives, and following up on employee well being.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

A minimum of three years experience in developing, managing, and maintaining a fitness center program/facility. Certification in CPR and First Aid is required. Must be familiar with personnel management procedures and policies. Ability to deal effectively with subordinates, management officials, and patrons. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance.
