Responsibilities

As an HR Assistant, you will be responsible for:
  • Reviewing personnel forms for completion and confirms their contents as needed.
  • Assisting with conducting new employee orientation sessions.
  • Entering data into the NFC personnel/payroll system.
  • Inputting employee information into the employee personnel folder (eOPF).
  • Providing information on routine personnel matters, such as how to complete a form, status of vacancies, and open season enrollment deadlines.
  • Resolving recurring problems and discrepancies, such as reconciling computer records against position descriptions and organizational data.

  • You must successfully complete a background investigation. Candidates who do not complete the required background investigation paperwork by the pre-determined due date, will be disqualified.
  • You may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

Specialized Experience Statement :

GS-05: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector: maintaining employee personnel records in compliance with rules, regulations and established procedures; researching, documenting, and resolving a number of personnel requests using an automated personnel system; ensuring required documentation is accounted for and properly documented; performing quality assurance reviews on personnel records; correcting errors and providing guidance and alternative solutions to problems; OR
A Bachelor's (or equivalent) degree or a full four years of progressive, successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is a prerequisite may be used to meet the qualification requirements for GS-5. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university; OR

A combination of experience (less than 1 year of specialized experience as described above) and post high school education beyond the second year which combined meet the education and experience requirements or combination of education and experience.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

TIME-IN-GRADE: If you are a current career or career-conditional federal employee applying for promotion under Merit Promotion you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks in positions at the next level lower than the position being filled.
