Position Summary Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists, also known as MRI Technologists, create images and run tests that aid in the diagnosis of certain diseases and disorders, and are directly responsible for providing appropriate levels of patient care during the scanning process. Essential Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.Discuss the procedure with patients and explain its risks and purposeDuring an imaging procedure, the technologist captures the result of the procedure photographically and delivers it to a physician for analysisAdminister all images in accordance with practice scanning standards proceduresMaintain appropriate patient through-put levelsMaintain a professional work area, and assist in maintaining dressing rooms and scanning roomsAdministers first-aid when required and assists physicians with patient care during emergenciesUnderstands all safety practices and policies for MRI to maintain a safe environment for the patients, patients family members, staff and ancillary personnelMaintains supplies for the work area, and assists in the reordering and appropriate levels of all suppliesStart IV's and administers contrast; the technologist is also responsible for keeping detailed records of the process, including the kind and total amount of any contrast agent(s), that each patient is given and how much has been wasted and discardedResponsible for keeping current on all technical and safety standards and advancesPerform daily Quality Assurance checks as required to maintain state of Maryland and ACR RegulationsThis job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Graduation from an accredited x-ray training program. Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and MRI Board Certification is necessary. Maryland State license in Radiography or any additional license as required by law. Experience Two to four years of experience as a MRI TechnologistConsiderable knowledge of principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment involved in the performance of all MRI proceduresConsiderable knowledge and ability to instruct others in anatomy, physiology, and pathology of MRI proceduresAdvanced knowledge of all procedures, sufficient to inform physician or nursing personnel in the event that abnormal results are obtained; ability to recognize and identify symptoms, exercise judgment, and react appropriately in emergency situationsAbility to understand the physical and psychological needs of the patientAbility to accept responsibility for accuracy of studies, continually striving to improve the quality through continuing educationWorking knowledge of safety procedures as requiredAbility to work under moderate amounts of pressure for moderate lengths of timeAbility to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with physicians, nurses, patients, students, and other employees, gaining their confidence and cooperation Competencies Ability to do math calculations, input data into the computer, and analyze data as requested. Must be able to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner. Must understand vague and implicit instructions, and react favorably in all work situations. Must be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people. Supervision Received General supervision is received from Department Manager; work is reviewed at least daily by physician concerned. Supervision Exercised None.
