Term Professor and Master of Science Director - Criminology, Law and Society

George Mason University's Department of Criminology, Law and Society (CLS) invites applicants for a full-time Term Professor (open rank) and Master of Science Director position to start in August 2021. CLS and Mason as an institution have a strong commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among our faculty and staff, and value being an equal opportunity employer. We strongly encourage candidates who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment to apply.

About the Department The department's Master of Science in Criminal Justice program seeks to advance the knowledge, skills, and career prospects of early-to-mid-career criminal justice professionals. In courses taught by leading practitioners and researchers, students receive the scientific knowledge and real-world insights necessary to evaluate, select, and implement criminal justice policies and practices that contribute to the goals of a fairer, more socially just, and more effective criminal justice system. More information on CLS and its course offerings is available at http://cls.gmu.edu/.

About the Position: The initial one-year contract includes benefits and is renewable. Annual compensation for this 9-month position is competitive and depends on qualifications. The position also includes stipends for program directing responsibilities during the academic year and the summer. Summer teaching opportunities with additional pay may be available but are not guaranteed. This is not a tenure-track position and does not require research responsibilities.

Teaching Responsibilities: The instructor will teach six courses per nine-month academic year (three per semester). In addition to teaching MS courses, it is expected that the instructor will also teach in the CLS undergraduate program (which has concentrations in law and society, criminal justice, and homeland security, and a minor in intelligence studies), depending on needs.

Master of Science Director Responsibilities: In coordination with the CLS leadership, and with the assistance of the graduate program coordinator, the MS director manages all aspects of the MS program, including admissions, budgeting, special events (e.g., spring and fall orientations, recruitment events, and management of a guest speaker series), coordination with advisors, program policies, and the MS curriculum. The director also manages adjunct faculty for the MS program, and MS course scheduling for fall, spring, and summer classes. The MS Director oversees the accelerated master's program in conjunction with the Undergraduate Program Director.

Required Qualifications: * Ph.D., J.D., or Master's degree in a relevant field.

Preferred Qualifications: * Ph.D. is preferred. Candidates with academic or other program management experience are preferred, as are candidates with a record of teaching and research relevant to evidence-based policy and practice in criminal justice.

For full consideration, applicants must apply for position number F552Az at http://jobs.gmu.edu/; complete and submit the online application; and upload a cover letter and CV. In addition, applicants should name three people in their cover letter who can provide a letter of reference if requested by the department. Review of applications will begin after Feb. 15, 2021, and will continue until the position is filled.
