Job Announcement

This position, under general supervision, is responsible for the initial investigation of criminal cases referred to the Financial Crimes Section, Major Crimes Bureau. This includes conducting interviews, preparing written and oral reports, collecting evidence, and evaluating case facts. Requires an acute knowledge of applicable legal standards and current laws. Also requires frequent interaction with citizens, private industry, and public entities. Reviews, analyzes, and assesses case facts presented. Prepares written reports based on facts. Establishes case classification for generated reports. Ensures generated reports comply with state and county procedures. Conducts interviews and gather evidence to facilitate a thorough investigation. Researches legislative changes in laws relating to financial crimes. Coordinates with section members to ensure proper dissemination of information. Recommends changes to established policy to comply with new legislation. Prepares monthly reports of cases assigned. Reports will detail statistics of case assignments, status, or other information as directed. Reviews information disseminated to citizens in the form of mailings, phone tree, and webpage. Recommends and implements changes to ensure the accuracy of the information relayed. Tracks assigned cases and inputs data in the case management system. Reviews system feasibility and recommends improvements to better address section requirements. Implements changes as directed.

Employment Standards

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in the field related to the assigned functional area.
Four years of increasingly complex technical experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Admin Assistant IV, or higher, level. This class can serve as a bridge class enabling individuals who do not meet the educational or professional experience standards listed above to qualify for this class by possessing four years of increasingly complex technical experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Admin Assistant IV, or higher, level. The purpose of this bridge class is to promote upward mobility within the Fairfax County workforce. However persons qualifying for this class on the basis of their technical experience may not substitute this technical experience for education, or for professional experience, in order to qualify for other employment opportunities.

Three years of law enforcement investigative experience conducting financial crimes investigations. Knowledge of criminal procedures, Constitutional law, court procedures, Virginia Criminal Statutes and evidence collection. Proficient using Microsoft Word and Excel computer software. Good interpersonal skills, ability to speak clearly and articulate. Must be able to write clear and accurate reports.

Valid driver's license.
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, credit check, driver's license check, and public safety background check to the satisfaction of the employer.
Work requires ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to receive and respond to telephone calls. Speak clearly and articulate facts. Ability to read, analyze and comprehend legal writings. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
