Research Administrator

The George Mason University Volgenau School of Engineering (VSE) invites applications for a Research Administrator. The Research Administration team, within the VSE Office of the Dean, supports faculty in financial management and compliance of their research grants and contracts in an efficient manner and with a customer-service focus. The Volgenau School of Engineering has had a rapid growth of research over the past five years with expenditures totaling over $64M in 2020, as well as 371 proposal submissions and 211 awards received in 2020. Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of this position are to work with VSE faculty in the pre-award areas of budget creation, and support faculty and management in financial research administration. This position will assist with gathering administrative documents required for proposal submissions, and will submit the proposal after the final documents have been reviewed and signed by the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) Authorizing Official.

* Verify proposal requirements and communicate those requirements and deadlines to faculty; * Create the budget, budget justification and other required documents (except for the written narrative); * Create the proposal routing form and submit the proposal documents to the OSP for the final review and authorized signature before submitting the proposal through the required electronic system; * Verify and track the sponsor's receipt of the proposal; * Proposal requirement review and timeline development; * Proposal finalization, submission and tracking; * Assist with any other required financial reports.

Required Qualifications: * 3-5 years of experience in pre-award proposal submissions and the electronic systems (NSF Fastlane, Grants.gov, NIH ERA Commons, SciENcv); * Experience with Microsoft Office Suite; * Ability to work with a diverse population; * Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast pace environment; * Strong written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in a business or financial field; * Experience in higher education institutions; * Certified Research Administrator.
