Summary

This position is located in the Office of Field Operations, Baltimore II Field Office, Baltimore, MD. Performs basic investigative research, analysis, and administrative functions in support of ATF's law enforcement or regulatory mission.

Responsibilities

  • Provides vital investigative, support toward the overall investigative mission by conducting trend analysis, statistical studies and special projects.
  • Summarizes reports and extracts essential information received from the intelligence community and other law enforcement agencies into single cohesive reports.
  • Develops supplemental visuals such as graphs, charts, etc., to be used in preparing cases for trials.
  • Maintains and develops a wide range of diverse contacts, sources and field's impromptu phone and face-to-face contacts with the general public.
  • Conducts analytical research of firearms, explosives, arson, alcohol, and tobacco related data and generates informational reports and trend analysis pertaining to stolen firearms and explosives, firearms trafficking, alcohol and tobacco diversion.
  • Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progresses.

MOBILITY PLAN : New employees hired pursuant to this vacancy announcement must sign a mobility agreement. The purpose of ATF's mobility policy is to enhance career development and progression, and achieve mission and business effectiveness. To accomplish these objectives, the mobility plan will facilitate the movement of employees through special short-term assignments or permanent reassignments throughout the Bureau. Qualifications

To qualify for GS-07 candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-05.

Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume. Examples of specialized experience include compiling and analyzing data, conducting research and analysis data; gathering and assembling material for use in reports and presentations; coordinating and making travel arrangements; composing correspondence related to administrative support functions; providing guidance and recommendations regarding administrative policies and procedures; and using computers software to input and extract information from databases.

The GS-07 salary range starts at $49,157. If you are a new federal (civil service) employee, your starting salary will be set at the Step 1 for this position and the grade level for which you are selected.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience may qualify at the GS-7 with one full year of graduate level education in social sciences, business or public administration, criminal justice, behavioral sciences, and sociology. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full- time study. If that information cannot be determined from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as equivalent to 1 year of full-time study; OR Superior Academic Achievement (SAA): A Bachelor's degree in one of the above fields of study with SAA. SAA may be met in one of the following three ways: 1. Class Standing-Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, based on completed courses. 2. Grade Point Average-Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on 4 years of education, or based on the last 2 years of the curriculum; or a 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field, or the required courses completed in the major during the final 2 years of the curriculum. 3. Election to Membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society-Applicants can be considered eligible for SAA based on membership in a national scholastic honor society that meets the minimum requirements of the Association of College Honor Societies.
