Responsibilities

GSA's Office of Information Technology Category (ITC) provides access to private sector IT & telecommunications solutions for federal, state & local government agencies. ITC works with federal agencies, OMB & industry to create common solutions for IT services, hardware, software, telecommunications, cyber security, & identity management. 98% of federal agencies use ITC solutions.
  • Develop and recommend technical solutions and provide technical guidance in IT security implementation to Federal agency clients.
  • Conducts feasibility studies and develops business cases for security solutions and cost estimates for new or modified services and analyzes the
    technical and economic feasibility of the anticipated client's needs and defines the technical and contractual requirements associated with these needs.
  • Establishes and maintains effective customer relationships through process management and communication.
  • Coordinates the implementation of security programs across platforms, establishes vulnerability reporting criteria, and minimizes system vulnerabilities
    through intrusion detection or access authentication programs.

The GS-13 salary range starts at $103,690per year for Washington, DC.

IT SPECIALIST COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Attention to Detail - This skill is generally demonstrated by assignments where the applicant keeps abreast of latest technology, information, research, etc., to maintain knowledge in field of expertise (for example, reads trade journals, participates in professional/technical associations, maintains credentials).

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: To qualify, you must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience identifying IT system control vulnerabilities, risks and protection needs; resolving issues and problems involving IT systems security; implementing information system security policies, standards and guidelines; and, providing technical advice to management officials on security requirements.

How You Will Be Evaluated

  • Knowledge of information technology systems security concepts and principles and awareness of emerging technologies and their applications to information assurance processes
  • Ability to direct the implementation of information assurance systems, software, and related projects and apply innovative methods to implementation problems not readily treated by conventional methods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of management officials and clients.
  • Knowledge of Federal laws, IT industry standards, GSA standards, Federal ADP policies, directives, guidelines, and other regulatory materials covering IT areas, with an emphasis on information security, in order to recommend systems and service and ensure the technical accuracy and applicability of
    products and services furnished by private sector vendors.
