Responsibilities

As a STRATEGIC TRENDS ANALYST at the GS-0301-12/13 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Providing operationally-relevant, actionable, credible, and timely recommendations to the Agency on mitigation or elimination approaches to anticipated future battlefield challenges involving weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and improvised threats.
  • Analysis of the application of existing technologies in new and novel ways in support of CBRN employment/dissemination.
  • Monitors and analyzes the impacts of emerging science and technology (S&T) on weapons of mass destruction and the impacts of every changing geopolitics that creates the environment for WMD development and use.
  • Reviewing and assessing research white papers and proposals in support of contracted analysis efforts within the division to ensure projects support mission requirements.
  • Supporting assessments of Agency efforts to counter WMD across the Agency itself and with its partners and customers, including the Combatant Commands and Military Services.
  • Communicates trends to the Agency and CWMD Community through drafting and editing various trends analysis reports and presenting the group's findings to the Agency workforce in support of the division's overall mission objectives.
  • Serves as a geo-political analyst supporting threat forecasting on National Defense Strategy priorities, DTRA Director Planning Guidance priorities, and other DoD requirements.
  • Characterizes the emerging battlespace relative to anticipated changes in the WMD threat terrain and its supporting networks, the evolution of the operational environment, and/or anticipated mission impacts due to the realization of specific high priority or high consequence threats.
  • Analyzes, and articulates CWMD strategies at the tactical (local), operational (regional) and strategic (international) levels of warfare. Assists developing decision packages, staff studies, briefings and recommendations involved with significant and controversial issues affecting major aspects of the Agency's programs.
  • Supports internal research effort through occasional team review of white papers and proposals to ascertain credibility of proposed effort and appropriateness for the program. Supports events, such as forums, workshops, and symposiums, as needed. Uses internal research program and events outputs as source material for further analyses of complex problems.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-12, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Writing analytical products on a regular basis to inform of CBRN/M trends.
  • Reviewing the strategic and non-strategic challenges posed by Great Power Competitors, particularly those associated with China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea.
  • Analyzing adversarial, friendly, and neutrally-aligned nation's and non-state actor's capabilities to ensure proper context and understanding of the key attributes of a particular CBRN topic.

You may qualify at the GS-13, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Serving as Strategic Analyst focused on CBRN/M and contextual global topics.
  • Reviewing the strategic and non-strategic challenges posed by Great Power Competitors, particularly those associated with China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea.
  • Exploring DoD and Agency responses to anticipated but not fully articulated CBRN and emerging science and technological challenges on the battlefield.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
