The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Electrician Leader of a team working within the Facilities and Administrative Services Staff (FASS), Justice Building Services (JBS).

Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities for a 2805 Electrician Leader generally include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Leading a Team of Electricians.
  • Installing, maintaining and troubleshooting, locating, and repairing faulty electrical equipment and electrical systems. ·
  • Performing electrical work related to building electrical systems, including wet and dry type transformers, high voltage switchgear, distribution panels, and emergency generators.
  • Selecting and utilizing appropriate hand tools such as hacksaws, pipe benders, threading tools, and soldering equipment to perform maintenance, repair and testing
  • Planning and laying out needed routing, placement, and arrangement of systems, circuits, controls and equipment.
  • Dismantling, repairing, and reassembling electrical utilities and systems using various electrical tools such as voltmeters, ammeters, watt meters, and ohmmeters.
  • Working from complex schematic wiring diagrams, as well as mechanical and structural drawings.
The duties listed above are for a Wage Leader Position. Organizations may also add 'other duties as assigned' once you are hired, based on what is included and allowed by the position description.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Electrician Leader, (WL-2805-10), you must meet the Basic Qualification Requirements listed below AND Screen Out Elements- elements which could screen out the applicant from eligibility and specific to the series and grade you are applying to.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard for the WG-2800, Electrical Installation and Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements' emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Basic Requirements:

Physical Demands:
Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. This requires the employee to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to 20 pounds and less often, up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, lifts or moves with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 40 pounds. These physical demands can be met with or without assistance.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed both inside and outside. Sometimes required to make repairs and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 or more feet; and in close quarters such as manholes, attics, or aboard ships. Occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary device, such as electrical motors. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.
