Responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for the design, implementation, modification, and maintenance of complex technical environments, networks, and systems. You will be responsible for network infrastructure engineering support services, including but not limited to installing and configuring network equipment, monitoring network infrastructure health, patch management, and supporting connectivity to other networks and facilities. In this role, you will be required to oversee the network engineers who are working the 3pm to 11pm shift ensuring sufficient coverage, ensuring resources are assigned to technical refresh upgrades, bandwidth upgrades, and any other maintenance windows where a network engineer is needed for. In this role, you will also be required to be the queue monitor for the DCN engineering ticket queue, ensuring all tickets are assigned, updated, and resolved within defined service level agreements. Additionally, you will be required to ensure a successful transition of duties and responsibilities to the next shift.

In the area of Network Design and Implementation, duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Developing a program to proactively monitor bandwidth.
  • Preparing bandwidth assessments of Court Wide Area Network (WAN) circuits upon request.
  • Preparing order instructions for WAN circuits, equipment, and services as defined by the customer.
  • Configuring WAN and Local Area Network (LAN) hardware and software.
  • Documenting network diagrams, infrastructure, IP addressing schemes, routing, security policies, and load-sharing.
  • Developing and documenting network provisioning requirements and policies.
  • Providing capacity planning assistance to develop network resource requirements projections.
  • Supporting core Internet protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, MPLS, and QoS).
  • Installing and configuring Cisco 4000 series routers.
  • Responsible for IP address management of the currently allocated subnets as well as evolution to the new addressing policy for the enterprise architecture.
  • Providing operation and maintenance (O&M) support and trouble-shooting of network-related issues covering the entire enterprise (LAN/WAN/Data Center and Internet/TIC).
  • Supporting QoS, multicast, and content delivery.
  • In the area of Network Monitoring, duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Developing and documenting requirements and policies for network monitoring and problem management.
  • Providing guidance for network operation implementation and support process and procedures.
  • Providing support as tier 3 escalation.
  • Identifying network problems and resolving them in accordance with incident and problem management services, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinating resolution of circuit problems with third parties, including public carriers, ISP, and external vendors.
  • NOTE: This is a shift position from 3pm to 11pm EST, Monday through Friday

  • Qualifications

    Applicants must have demonstrated experience as listed below. This requirement is according to the AO Classification, Compensation, and Recruitment Systems which include interpretive guidance and reference to the OPM Operating Manual for Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions.

    Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position. Specialized experience must demonstrate ALL areas defined below.
  • Managing a group of engineers and their workload;
  • Working with Cisco Nexus 2K, 5K, and 7K;
  • Utilizing Cisco Dynamic Multipoint VPN and IPsec;
  • Providing support for Cisco Routing and Switching including MultiCast, QoS, IOS Security, and content delivery;
  • Utilizing IT Service Management (ITSM) tools; and
  • Configuring WAN/LAN hardware and software.
  • Applicants with the following certifications and/or experience are highly desirable.
    • Cisco CCNA or CCNP Certification
    • Knowledge of Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI)
