Position Summary This position is generally accountable for: Management of all accounting/finance operations; Management of all external reporting functions; Providing support to the CFO in the management of the annual budgeting process; Management & supervision of the annual audit processes; Management of interim financial analysis and all other internal financial reporting; and Management of Finance department staff. Specific Responsibilities Ensure a superior customer service environment Assist staff at all levels, in all departments, with meeting their department and program financial goals Assist the CFO in development of efficient and effective accounting and internal control systems and processes, and financial management infrastructure of systems, processes and procedures for forecasting, budgeting, monitoring, analysis and reporting Direct implementation and operation of efficient and effective accounting systems, ensuring accurate and timely processing of accounting transactions and reports Ensure compliance with all GAAP and regulatory requirements Support compliance with the Code of Federal Regulations for all federally funded programs Direct the financial management infrastructure of systems, processes and procedures for financial forecasting, budgeting, monitoring, analysis, and reporting Assist in the annual budgeting process, direct the monthly re-projections process and processes for any special reporting requirements Direct treasury and cash management activities Direct the annual audit and any special audits Perform other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: A sincere interest in the mission of ocean conservation. Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business required (CPA preferred) Minimum of 7-10 years relevant nonprofit financial management Minimum of 3 years staff supervision/management Superior understanding of all aspects of nonprofit accounting and financial management, appropriate knowledge of tax laws and related issues and regulations for 501(c)(3) & (c)(4) organizations, including federal and state filings and sound internal controls. Experience with single audits and Code of Federal Regulations requirements preferred Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing; ability to effectively manage many tasks simultaneously and prioritize duties Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion Must be able to produce high quality work and exercise good judgment Expertise in accounting, donor and office software Exceptional ability to train, develop, manage, and lead professional and support staff
