Lab Coordinator - Part-time
As needed; variable shifts to include weekends and holidaysProvides a multitude of services for clients, patients and staff within the Laboratory as outlined below:TaskLab CoordinatorFollow all safety proceduresXMaintains supply, inventory, stocking and ordering as directedXPerforms registration of specimens, reviews patient demographics, billing information, diagnosis and test requests for accuracy and takes appropriate action(s) to correct any errors.XFunctions as a resource for all interested parties to research and communicate specimen information.XFunctions as a client service resource for patients and others presenting in the lab or via phone.XFunctions to ensure notification of critical values to appropriate parties and management of failed faxes.XReceives specimens from all submitters (internal and external) while ensuring correct specimen labeling and acceptability according to policy and takes appropriate action(s) to notify stakeholders of any errorsXPerforms specimen preparation: Centrifugation, transfer of aliquots to containers, measure / record volumes, ensure appropriate storage conditions / packaging as required for in-house or referral testing.XEducationHigh school education or the equivalent. Formal training as medical assistant and/or in medical coding preferred.ExperienceExperience in laboratory related area or medical provider office preferred.SkillsDemonstrated manual dexterity and good communication skills. Must satisfactorily complete on-the-job training provided by the supervisor within the probationary period, unless extension is granted by the laboratory manager. Passing score on data entry test and medical terminology test required.
