Position Summary: Real Estate Paralegal to assist General Counsel. Real Estate Paralegal is responsible for supporting the delivery of quality legal services to clients by performing specialized legal assistant, administrative, and secretarial duties pertaining to all aspects of real estate transactions. Assignment typically involves multi-tasking complex document production with heavy administrative functions and client contact, requiring a high degree of executive secretarial and technical skills. The qualified candidate will have 5+ years of experience assisting with structuring and closing real estate transactions. You also need an associate degree in legal studies and a paralegal certificate. In this position, you are responsible for reviewing title commitments, power of attorney documents and irrevocable trust documents in connection with residential mortgage closings for multiple states. You will be expected to interact with title companies externally on corrections to title policies and post-closing items. Internally you will review and approve power of attorney documents, irrevocable trust documents and address questions related to agency requirements.Essential Job Functions: Specific tasks will include, but are not limited to, the following: Working knowledge of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and Veteran Affairs guidelines related to utilization of trust documents for residential mortgage transactionsReview and approve multi-state irrevocable trust submitted to the legal department pursuant to agency and state requirements Review of title commitments and communicate with line of business on corrective itemsRespond to line of business questions for closing document preparation.Review and approve powers of attorney submitted in connection with residential mortgage transactionsUpdate policies and procedures in response to agency, state amendments to power of attorney regulationsAnswer basic legal questions about the use of a power attorney in multiple states. Working knowledge of loan modification and foreclosure laws for residential mortgage transactionsAssist with collection of loan files in preparation for mortgage foreclosures. Prepare minutes in connection with group conference calls.Perform file organization and maintenance.The Real Estate Paralegal is expected to maintain satisfactory attendance and report to work on time every day.Additional tasks as assigned.Required Experience:Associate degree in legal studiesParalegal certificateComputer proficient with experience and working knowledge of real estate-related databases, Internet research, due diligence, Encompass, Title Express, Excel, Outlook, and MS Word or comparable loan operations, title operations systems preferred. Excellent organizational skills including record keeping, data collection, and system information. Ability to compile and analyze data and furnish information in report format, written correspondence, e mail, or verbally.Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with courtesy and diplomacy, efficiently follow written and verbal instructions, provide information, and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of attorneys, clients, staff, and outside contacts.Analytical skills requiring an aptitude for detail and accuracy in order to analyze and research corporate transactional data, process information, and perform essential duties.Exhibit high degree of initiative in managing multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, detailed-oriented work environment utilizing excellent administrative, judgmental, and decision-making skills.
