Job DetailsLevelExperiencedJob LocationAmerican Psychiatric Association HQ - Washington, DCPosition TypeFull-TimePOSITION SUMMARYThe HR Generalist is responsible for maximizing efficiency across the HR department over the long-term by cultivating and maintaining good relationships with all stakeholders within and outside of the APA administration, working with other members of the department to provide excellent customer service, and being the first point of contact for the HR department. The HR Generalist oversees every step of the talent acquisition process in addition to having responsibility for responding to general HR questions and administration across the entire HR department and acting as lead in the absence of other members.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESAct as the first point of contact for employees to the HR team answering general HR questions on a regular and ongoing basis through email and in-person communicationsOwn the acquisition process up to the final hiring decision, including job description creation, posting, and candidate sourcing utilizing social networking, professional network contacts, and other sources. Act as liaison to advertising and employment agencies for sourcing and employment verificationsFacilitate onboarding and off-boarding meetings for all employeesProvide solid judgment on candidate qualifications through correspondence, phone and in-person interviews, and coach hiring managers and teams to make the most appropriate and beneficial recruiting decisionsOversee setup and usage of the applicant tracking system within the wider HRIS platform used by APAManage employee electronic personnel file creation and maintenance in the HRIS platformAssist in the research and review of a technology and resources used to optimize the function of HR such as HRIS, online recruiting efforts, vendor sites and resources, etc.Advise managers on employee relations issues with support from the HR DirectorComplete compensation analysis and benchmarking for new and existing rolesProvide regular exit interview reporting and analysis to Senior LeadershipAssist in administration of health and welfare benefits plans, including open enrollments and terminationsProvide backup in monitoring employee eligibility for medical, dental, and other insurance benefits; reviewing benefits with employees and processing enrollment, cancellation, or changes for benefitsEstablish and maintain department records and reports; participate in department and Association meetings such as seminars Maintain organizational charts and employee directory informationReconciling vendor invoicesCollaborate with other members of the HR team to suggest, plan, and facilitate training sessions on recruiting, onboarding, and other relevant topicsDraft, revise, edit, and proofread company policies and procedures and related documents as necessaryAssist with drafting and sending of employee communications from the HR department Ad Hoc reporting as requested by Senior Leadership and Board of TrusteesAssist with other projects and duties as assignedREQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors degree in any field3-5 years of HR generalist experienceMinimum 2 years of recruiting experience, preferably in a non-profit organization, association or agency environmentProficiency in candidate tracking software (Paycom), preferredStrong attention to detail and excellent problem solving and organizational skillsExcellent time management and ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environmentCommitment to confidentialityAbility to communicate with individuals across all levels of an organizationIntermediate to advanced level proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPointDemonstrated ability to work independently to manage own projects as well as working collaboratively with others when neededCompleted HR certification or working towards completion, preferredPHYSICAL DEMANDSNormal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for prolonged periods, communicate with individuals by telephone, e-mail and face to face. Some travel may be required.
