The Assistant Controller is responsible for managing assigned accounting functions including ACC's day-to-day transactional and revenue accounting, financial audits, technical accounting, quarterly financial reporting requirements, and special projects. The individual will play a proactive role in establishing, directing and maintaining accurate and ethical accounting principles, practices, and procedures in order to establish and maintain sound financial controls. The Assistant Controller will act as a steward of the College's resources, provide development and coaching support to team and ensure operational effectiveness. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Key Leadership Objective - Support Enterprise Performance Lead team strategically, function as a key partner to the programmatic and revenue generation areas of the college by providing real time communication of value-added data that can quickly be converted to decision relevant actionable information Support the development of ACCs Accounting department brand as a trusted and valuable business partner as programs achieve their goals and by extension support of the College's strategic objectives. Identify and provide training and coaching needs of the team Develop and track performance incentives for the team that orient toward achieving wider organizational goals and being an organization partner to achieve enterprise performance. Encourage and reward customer service, collaboration, process improvement, communication and innovation within the team and overall department. Establish cross functional "revenue execution teams " (pre and post contract signing stages) to ensure coordinated coverage and protection from a legal, compliance, tax planning and risk reduction standpoint, including the expectation around revenue recognition. Frequently review the College's goal pipeline to anticipate, plan and respond to new, unusual and emerging requirements and potential challenges. Support continued review of process workflows to ensure that the departments' stakeholder goals and objectives are being met and to identify and eliminate redundancy, errors and rework. Maximize the functionality of current technology, and research to determine where the college can benefit significantly from new technology. Ensure that processes consider the non-accounting staff user experience and required effort (ie ease of use, reliability, speed) Maintain knowledge of cutting-edge finance and accounting tools, techniques, work processes, performance measurement calculation to ensure that we maintain the effort for continuous improvement Support effective Stewardship of the College's Resources. Supervise and develop direct reports, establish performance standards and expectations, discuss, plan and review work assignments both in-progress and when completed Direct work using the principles, practices and procedures to ensure GAAP and other regulatory compliance and to ensure adherence to the College's internal policies and procedures, as well as other operating guidelines required by the organizing documents of the College and its related entities Ensure that management and staff throughout the College have a thorough understanding of fiscal policies, procedures, controls and ensure that an adequate control environment is in place Maintain adequate internal controls and policies to mitigate risk and ensure process efficiency. Design workflows that are efficient, yet flexible/dynamic/fluid enough to respond quickly to organizational growth, changes as well as new innovative projects. Provide technical accounting guidance to transactional accounting team, and business lines, providing information necessary to problem solve and address process and accounting and compliance issues Manage the general ledger and related subledgers ensuring all accounts have proper oversight and are validated through regular reconciliations by the transactional team. Manage the month-end closing process and ensure that all accounting cycles are closed accurately and in a timely manner each month (full close by the 11th business day of month following). Assist in liaising with external auditors, provide oversight of audit schedules. Ensure PBC list and the draft Financial Statements and supporting schedules are completed in a timely manner Co-liaison to the Audit & Compliance Committee assisting in preparation of materials and other required reports ensuring they are accurately prepared and distributed in the timely manner.
