About this position: We are currently seeking a conscientious, process-oriented individual to play an integral part of Join the Lafayette Federal Credit Union's Mortgage Department as a Mortgage Operations Manager. If you are a strategic thinker who is innovative, creative, and willing to learn then this job is for you. This position reports directly to the VP of Mortgage Lending. Summarily, the Mortgage Operations Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, directing mortgage lending operations including underwriting, processing, closing, funding, insuring/guaranteeing, and investor shipping and delivery. The Mortgage Operations Manager will ensure that credit operations are in accordance with established policies, procedures, and legal requirements, and result in maximum volume, appropriate profit, and minimum delinquency ratios. The individual in this role will also coordinate and oversee loan activities, ensuring that all reporting areas of responsibility support credit union objectives and goals. Trains, directs, and appraises assigned personnel, and ensures that services are delivered professionally and efficiently. The Mortgage Operations Manager will also: Effectively manage and lead the Residential Mortgage Underwriting, Processing, Closing, and Post-Closing team employees, including scheduling, performance reviews, training, coaching, and ensuring compliance with all regulations, LFCU policies and procedures. Comprehensive knowledge of first mortgage lending guidelines and practices including FNMA, FHA, Housing Finance Agency, TRID, special lending programs, and portfolio lending as well as a general awareness in the field of credit underwriting. Manage workflow and volume, meeting allotted time frames and re-evaluation of procedures to improve productivity, loan quality, and member service efficiencies. Develop and maintain strong lines of communication with all team members including LFCU Mortgage Loan Officers, reporting staff, and upper management. Assure that the managed process adheres to LFCU procedures and monitor timely closing, funding, booking, and shipping of completed first and second mortgages. Work with management to achieve efficiencies within the general process and coordination with interlinking departments. Manage post-close process to ensure all QC and post-close issues are quickly and satisfactorily resolved. Assist with commitment, delivery, and sale of loans to applicable investors. Represent LFCU in a professional and responsible manner at all times Ensures members' problems are resolved promptly.will act as the primary liaison between the loan officer, branch offices, realtors, builders and the borrowers. Other Duties Complies with all policies and procedures as applied to the Credit Union's BSA/AML policy. Assists with the underwriting of new loan files Develops and refines portfolio loan programs Provides assistance for Investor sales, transfers, and fundings Monitors MERS daily registrations and transfer of servicing. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements The ideal candidate will: Demonstrate expert knowledge of industry standard mortgage loan processing, underwriting, closing, and post-closing procedures, as well as various government, GSE, and VA specific programs, forms and processes. Possess Intermediate mathematical skill required (calculations and concepts involving decimals, percentages, fractions, etc.). The ability to perform income analysis to compute income to payment and debt to income ratio and Loan to Value. Meet registration requirements under the SAFE ACT to obtain federal and state registration and licensing. Demonstrate Excellent interpersonal skills. Self-motivated and capable of working independently. Basic computer skills including, but not limited to, Windows, Word, Excel, and a thorough understanding of mortgage software used by LFCU. Demonstrate strong leadership and supervisory skills. Demonstrate ability to Multi-Task, Adapt, and Problem Solve. Maintain positive member relations while adhering to policy and procedures. Contribute to the successful achievement of organizational and departmental goals as set by management and/or the VP of Mortgage Lending and/or SVP of Mortgage Lending. Have a desire to work in an inclusive and diverse office culture Be enthusiastic and positive about your role in the company's success Be excited to collaborate with others on strategic projects and daily operations Qualified candidates will have: A positive credit standing Experience and education: At least five years of underwriting experience in Mortgage Loan Operations, with a minimum of two years of supervisory experience. Knowledge of underwriting guidelines (FNMA, FHLMC, FHA) and other investors used by LFCU. Knowledge of all state and federal regulations affecting mortgage lending including but not limited to Reg Z, ECOA, Reg B, and HMDA. Thorough understanding of government regulations, legal requirements involving mortgage lending, and related functions. Advanced knowledge of the Mortgage Industry's primary and secondary markets preferred An understanding of mortgage loan program guidelines with the ability to pull loans and sell off to various Investors. Mortgage related training Must have working knowledge of MS Office applications including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel and other applications. Must have working ability to learn mortgage-related programs and possess the ability to facilitate training College degree preferred Interpersonal Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Ability to make sound decisions based on company policies and procedures. Ability to meet deadlines while prioritizing a changing workload. A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Specifically Loan Officers, branch employees, borrowers, realtors, builders, appraisers, title companies, etc. Work may involve motivating, influencing or training others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others. Must have the ability to interact with people and focus on details and follow-up on time sensitive material. Physical Requirements and Work Environment: This position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files and open cabinets. This position requires bending, stooping or standing as necessary. This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
