Business Unit Description

The Campaigns unit is responsible for the planning and execution of all advocacy and public education campaigns assigned by the Portfolios planning process or by the Executive Vice President of the State and National Group. The Campaigns unit partners with Government Affairs and States and Communities in developing and executing campaigns. The work of the Campaigns unit falls into the following areas:
• National and Federal Campaigns
• Multi-State Campaigns
• Individual State Campaigns
Summary

The Multicultural Engagement, Disparities and Equity Director reports to the Senior Vice President, Integrated Campaigns, and is responsible for contributing to advancing AARP's work in integrating advocacy on disparities and equity into the Association's overall advocacy agenda. This individual works across CSN and provides strategic leadership in shaping existing advocacy campaigns and developing and implementing programs and initiatives that advance AARP's advocacy program to multicultural communities. Serves as leader, advocate, catalyst, and resource focused on infusing DEI values in every aspect of advocacy and public affairs campaign. The Multicultural Engagement, Disparities and Equity Director works across CSN to identify trends and opportunities and acts proactively to prepare CSN units to leverage them.
Responsibilities

1. Coordinates and build upon existing advocacy and public affairs efforts to enhance the relevance and impact of AARP's advocacy on disparities and equity.

2. Reviews and recommends adjustments to campaign strategies, tactics, and budgets -- drawing from best practices, building on current organizational efforts, and working with relevant stakeholders - to ensure consistent integration disparities and equity into AARP's advocacy agenda and activities.

3. Provide strategic leadership and consultative insights on advocacy and public affairs campaigns to Campaigns, state offices and Government Affairs units leadership by creating, implementing, and evaluating new DEI strategies.

4. Work closely with Campaigns units to develop engagement pathways for multicultural audiences, and opportunities for testing and creating cross-channel communications for advocacy and public affairs campaigns.

5. Keeps current with DEI trends to identify emerging opportunities for integration into advocacy and public affairs campaigns. Works closely with the Campaign Directors to provide input for campaign's strategy, planning and implementation, and works with issue expert colleagues in Government Affairs, as well as with SCE and Campaigns to develop tools and resources to support outreach to multicultural audiences in our advocacy work.

6. Review advocacy reports to track goal progress to ensure impactful results.

7. Serves as a liaison to external multicultural and DEI organizations that align with and advance our advocacy campaigns. Develops relationships and partnership opportunities at the national level and provides consultation and support to states as they develop relationships with state and local organizations.

8. Responsible for working with Campaign leadership, SCE and OSA colleagues to develop dashboard and KPI targets, metrics, and criteria to measure the impact of our efforts to engage multicultural audiences in our advocacy campaigns.

9. Supports SCE and Government Affairs colleagues to strengthen skills and consider emerging trends in delivering on DEI strategies and goals related to our advocacy through a regular learning and knowledge building regimen.

10. Leverages and integrates relevant cross Enterprise DEI initiatives in the creation of an integrated strategic plan (in collaboration with the SVP, Integrated Campaigns) to enhance multicultural engagement and address disparities and equity within the Government Affairs and Campaigns annual priority issues.

11. Promote DEI priorities within the organization and with external groups and partners, developing coalitions and partners across the industry.
Requirements

1. Completion of a Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Public Policy, Social Sciences, Law or a related discipline and 8 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position.

2. Demonstrate understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues in advocacy programs

3. Experience leading significant organizational change within pre-existing organizational structures.

4. Strong marketing communication skills, (written, verbal, social) to leverage multicultural insights into communication messaging, collateral materials and programmatic execution

5. Strong knowledge of advocacy and public affairs campaigns and a demonstrated passion for advocacy work.

6. Experience with financial/budget analysis, project management, project leadership, and working in cross-functional teams.

7. Demonstrated knowledge of state and local policies and politics around aging (health security, financial security, and livable communities).

8. Ability to break down strategies or business initiatives into key tasks and identify accountabilities, and to align communication, people, culture, processes, resources, and systems to ensure effective implementation and delivery of required results.

9. Encourages and advises others on ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness; facilitates the implementation and acceptance of change in the workplace.
