Summary

Reporting to the Vice President of Business Optimization, the Business Optimization Director is responsible for delivering and growing our portfolio of high value consultative and advisory services to Groups and Enterprise teams specifically:
Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive strategic roadmap for improving the Organization's efficiency and effectiveness including detailing short and long-term goals, deliverables, and performance metrics.
  • Assists the VP in the development of the department's overall strategy, operational plan, and budget.
  • Provides vision, leadership and direction to the development and implementation of operational problem solving and business process improvement activities. This includes methods, tools, resources and, when possible, guidance to departments managing their own process improvement efforts.
  • Serves as Engagement Lead for majority of consulting projects, guiding a team of internal consultants responsible for operational problem solving through data gathering, root cause analysis, recommendations and implementation considerations.
  • Partners with VP to cultivate and nurture strategic & client relationships that help advance operational excellence across AARP
  • Creates internal processes and procedures in collaboration with colleagues, including a method to analyze and prioritize department's requests for assistance, and an approach to create, track and evaluate the performance metrics for these requests.
  • Leads working group process for developing business cases (e.g. Business cases for Growth Board decisions)
  • Uses experience and expert judgment to engage with senior executives to discuss and define their complex needs in support of high-level enterprise-wide initiatives.
  • Partners with stakeholders to analyze and develop a recommended approach for solving critical enterprise-wide issues and challenges.
  • Contributes to the development and execution of Business Optimization's strategic plan to increase AARP's execution and decision-making capabilities
  • Provides indirect management (guiding, motivating, coaching and developing) of client engagement team members (Senior Advisors, Advisors) to ensure a continuously improving consulting skillset and high-quality client deliverables
Requirements
  • MBA or equivalent Master's Degree required, with 10+ years of relevant experience in a similar function.
  • At least five years of management consulting experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in a client-focused consulting role responsible for analyzing complex enterprise problems from multiple angles and delivering actionable recommendations.
  • Extensive operational problem-solving experience, including a successful track record of delivering large scale (enterprise-wide) operating model enhancement projects, with related communication and change management activities, on schedule and budget.
  • Experience in understanding the obstacles that prevent the organization from striving to continuously improve while enhancing the abilities that will allow it to achieve measurable and sustainable results.
  • Takes initiative to engage with colleagues and clients to tackle complex operational challenges, demonstrating tenacity and resilience in the face of obstacles
  • Experience in communicating a vision and business case for an enterprise internal consulting function and identifying improvement opportunities that will provide value for the Enterprise.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead cross-functional, matrixed project teams toward common goals and strategic objectives while fostering strong relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of solution architecture and design and business process management tools.
  • Excellent written, verbal, visual/presentation and interpersonal communications skills
  • Six-Sigma Black Belt, or other professional certification preferred.
  • PMP or extensive project management experience desired.
