Responsibilities

Working as an Information Technology Specialist (System Administration) in the Infrastructure Services Division, your duties will increase as the new Gaithersburg (GB) staff member is trained for both the Computer Facilities Service Team (CFST) and for NIST. The duties that you will perform include but are not limited to:
  • Computer Facility (CF) Support and Management: Managing existing computer facilities and supporting other CF Managers of additional computer facilities with their computer facilities (CF) support. In addition, learn how to become the backup CF Manager of all of the CF's in Gaithersburg and in Boulder.
  • GB CFST Purchases: Work on all purchases for GB CFST related / support. This includes submitting both bank card and procurements for approval to CFST Team Lead.
  • CF Customer Support: Work on all GB and possibly BD customer requests, supporting them through the process including helping them install or remove equipment and supporting infrastructure from or into IT Equipment racks.
  • CFST Services Support: Manage and support the other CFST services, such as KVMoverIP / SERIALoverIP service.
  • CF Operations Support: As a member of the CF Management Team, they are required to support the CF Operations team with their requests, training, IT equipment needs, etc.
  • Division 184 GB Property Management: Become the GB Division property manager within 2 months and serve as the GB Division 184 property manager.
  • CFST Web Page Manager: Work to maintain the CFST NIST web pages in Microsoft Word, creating tickets for the web page administrator to update the web pages.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

This standard allows eligibility through meeting either the requirements specified in the section titled Education or the requirements specified in the section titled Experience.

Education : All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions

Undergraduate or Graduate Education : Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.

For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.

1.Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

2.Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

3.Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

4.Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Specialized Experience:

In addition to the basic requirements, applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalents to at least the GS-9 level (ZP-II at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience: supporting enterprise IT equipment; working with Microsoft office applications; knowledge of electrical systems and/or electrical concepts; knowledge of enterprise cooling systems and principles; Data Center or Computer Facility knowledge or experience; ability to create and manage existing drawings in AutoCAD.

3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
