Policy, Research and International Affairs (PRI) serves AARP by leading the development and articulation of AARP's public policies, research and insights on the 50+ and issues that matter to them, importing best global practices, and strengthening AARP's reputation for world class expertise and thought leadership.

Summary

This position provides research, analytic support, and product development related to LTSS issues and supports work of larger PPI Family, Home and Community team as needed.

Issue areas include: publicly and privately funded LTSS, models and choices, the diverse needs and preferences of people who use LTSS, public LTSS policies, as well as public LTSS programs that support older adults, people with disabilities and their caregivers. This position will also determine work processes and methods for accomplishing assigned tasks.
Responsibilities
  • Identifies policy challenges and solutions related to LTSS issues and issues across the FHC team as necessary.
  • Uses appropriate methodologies and data to conduct original research on policy issues in AARP's areas of importance.
  • Provides objective policy analysis and expert guidance for timely use by key internal clients. Evaluates current policy positions and provides input for the drafting of The Policy Book: AARP's Public Policies.
  • Critiques legislative and regulatory proposals in area of expertise and provides objective policy analysis to inform AARP's public outreach and advocacy efforts.
  • Represents AARP in public forums, and serves as a resource to AARP staff, as well as to stakeholders and organizations outside AARP.
  • Designs , writes , edits, and fact-checks reports and presentations in accordance to AARPs standards and using AARP's "People First" approach to research.
  • Researches and prepares materials and reports to support management decision-making.
  • Provides day-to-day project support for the LTSS Choices initiative, the LTSS Scorecard, NH and COVID-19 Dashboard, and related events and products. Supports activities including research, communications, strategy, project/event planning and implementation.
  • Serves as an active member of the planning and implementation teams and provides input and insight, as appropriate.
  • Uses appropriate research methods to identify LTSS problems, challenges and barriers and analyze policy solutions.
  • Monitors and tracks time-sensitive projects and events to ensure timely and accurate completion and compliance.


Requirements
  • Completion of a Master's degree in Public Policy, Public Health, Gerontology, other Social Science, or a related discipline - or an equivalent combination of directly relevant work experience and academic achievement is required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of LTSS policy issues.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills. Some experience in communications is preferred, especially with websites and social media.
  • Exceptional skills in analyzing public policy, synthesizing and presenting information for all types of audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels and across multiple departments.
  • Advanced proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel required; experience with Geographical Information Systems or Statistical Analysis packages is preferred.
