Summary

This position is located at the Armed Forces Retirement Home-Washington (AFRH-W) in Campus Operations. The primary purpose of the position is to assist the Chief, of Campus Operations and to provide administrative support for various CO programs. All of the CO programs are vital for providing services (Facility maintenance, Transportation, Pest control, Ground maintenance, new buildings and renovation and historic data) for the Residents and staff of the AFRH-W.

Responsibilities

As an Administrative Assistant (OA), you will:
  • Obtain and organize information/data for use by the Chief and assist in preparation of reports and briefings. Prepare background materials as required for staff visits or conferences.
  • Handle all incoming correspondences.
  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the Campus Operations Office.
  • Perform quality assurance and customer satisfaction surveys related to Campus Operations staff and Facility Maintenance Contractor performance.
  • Maintain time cards/inputs payroll data into computer system.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

For the GS-09, you must have 52 weeks (one year) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service.

Specialized experience for this position could include:
  • Performing an administrative support role using a personal computer to administer office functions and create office documents;
  • Researching, gathering, and compiling data to prepare reports;
  • Establishing and maintaining office files;
  • Serving as the primary point of contact and information resource for an organization/component of an organization.

Selective Factor: A qualified typist is required with skill in operating computer, electronic typewriters, modems, facsimile machines, printers and other office automation equipment. Must have the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:

For the GS-9, you must have been at the GS-8 level for 52 weeks.

Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.

- Because the AFRH's mission requires uninterrupted, direct human support and medical care for its Residents, this position is considered essential for continuing AFRH operations. Therefore, the incumbent is expected to arrive for duty on time, as scheduled, and to complete the assigned tour during emergency situations such as hazardous weather.
