This National Guard position is for a AMMUNITION INSPECTOR (TITLE 32) (INDEFINITE), Position Description Number D2280000 and is part of the VA USPFO, National Guard.

Responsibilities

As a Ammunition Inspector (Indefinite), WG-6501-08, you will perform the below duties:
  • Performs Ammunition Inspections pertaining to the receipt, classification, storage, issue and shipment of ammunition items.
  • Conducts inspection of ammunition being turned-in to determine suitability for further training needs. Takes appropriate steps in this disposition of CCH material. Ammunition Condition Reports (ACRs) are prepared and sent to item manager for disposition of restricted and/or suspended items. If disposition is determined to be locally demilitarized; contact designated EOD team and assist with demilitarization mission.
  • Prepares items for shipment to other depots and/or installations. Using the correct DOT regulations and packing requirements, makes sure all shipments meet DOT requirements.
  • Verification Inspection. Performs a variety of routine and special inspections of conventional ammunition.
  • Performs periodic, storage and special inspections and tests to determine quality safety and condition of a wide variety of ammunition, subcomponents, and materials used in the maintenance, modification and manufacture of ammunition items.
  • Inspects incoming material from other installations or venders for damage in transit, safety, serviceability, and compliance with applicable references, identifies items using the appropriate references, documents item markings and through personal contacts with project engineers.
  • Monitors ammunition and explosive related operations at firing sites and demilitarization areas for adherence to regulations and procedures concerning explosives, compatibility, quantity distance, explosive and personnel limits, transportation and utilization of protective equipment.
  • Inspects empty military vans and trucks to insure that carriers meet standards for transporting ammunition, explosives, and other hazardous materials.
  • Inspects propelling charge containers and bulk propellants in storage.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

WHO CAN APPLY:
GROUP I -
All qualified Male/Female Enlisted Personnel (E1/PVT - E8/MSG) currently employed (permanent) in the Virginia Army National Guard Military Technician Program.
GROUP II - All qualified Virginia Army National Guard Male/Female Enlisted Personnel (E1/PVT - E8/MSG), regardless of employment status (Traditional, Military Technician or AGR). To be considered as a Group II applicant, proof of appointment/enlistment in the Virginia National Guard must be attached if the appointment/enlistment occurred within 60 days prior to, or during, the advertisement period.
GROUP III - Individuals eligible for membership in the Virginia Army National Guard.

Military Grades: Enlisted Personnel (E1/PVT - E8/MSG)

GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to use and maintain tools and equipment associated with the type of work to be done, and to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Experience which demonstrates the knowledge of and the ability to apply safety standards.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Applicant must have at least 12 months of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the WG-07 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government. This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector, but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the WG grade indicated. This experience must include activities such as:
  • Experience or training handling and destroying explosives and toxic materials.
  • Experience following safety procedures in the handling of ammunition, explosives and toxic materials.
  • Experience using radial monitoring instruments, photographs, chemical analyses and x-ray equipment.
