A Vocation of Distinction

Fairfax Water is seeking a dynamic, experienced professional with outstanding leadership, management, analytical and communication skills to join our senior management team in the position of Director, Transmission and Distribution.

The Director, Transmission and Distribution provides strategic leadership by planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising a staff of 125 employees engaged in the operation and maintenance of the transmission and distribution systems of a large, complex water system that supplies high quality drinking water on a retail and wholesale basis to nearly two million people in the Northern Virginia communities of Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Herndon, Vienna, Alexandria, Falls Church, and Fairfax City.

Fairfax Water is a respected leader in the drinking water industry, Virginia’s largest water utility and one of the 25 largest water utilities in the country, serving one of every four Virginians who obtain their water from public utilities.  We aim to uphold customer trust by providing water of exceptional quality and reliability at a reasonable price, supporting the high quality of life and economic vitality of the region, and preserving the Occoquan and Potomac water resources for future generations.

Fairfax Water offers a comprehensive benefits package, including excellent health insurance, tuition reimbursement, flexible spending accounts, and a defined benefit retirement plan.

Fairfax Water is an independent, not-for-profit water utility, governed by a 10-member Board composed of Fairfax County citizens appointed by the elected Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.  We have one of the lowest commodity rates in the Washington metropolitan region and are one of only a handful of water utilities in the country to receive a AAA rating from the top three financial rating services.

“Supplying potable water is an essential human activity, a great responsibility, and a vocation of distinction." - J.B. Mannion, Former AWWA Executive Director
