Responsibilities

As a Supervisory Criminal Investigator (Section Chief) you will perform the following duties:
  • Performs the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. Establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff members, and clearly communicates through the formal employee performance management system;
  • Observes workers' performance and conducts work performance critiques, providing informal feedback and periodically formally evaluates employee performance;
  • Plans and develops national and special investigative programs, making recommendations for the introduction of new programs, conduct of pilot programs, and acceleration of existing programs;
  • Determines whether nationwide policies, standards, and procedures have been met and furnishes advice and assistance on operational problems. Coordinates the investigative activities of the various agency offices and resolves questions of jurisdiction; and
  • Confers with appropriate officials of other Federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, to provide efficient reciprocity of services; and cooperates with officials in the resolution of problems that cross organizational and jurisdictional lines.

  • Firearms Requirement: You will be required to carry a firearm while performing duties of this position. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory.
  • Work Conditions: Job requires physical strength and stamina due to long periods of surveillance, restraining suspects, and carrying heavy equipment. Environment includes work indoors/outdoors in a potentially dangerous and stressful situations.


Qualifications

You qualify for the Supervisory Criminal Investigator (Section Chief), GS-1811-14, position if you:

Currently hold or formerly held, a permanent position as a Criminal Investigator, GS-1811-14, position with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Supervisory Probationary Period: This is a supervisory position. Under provisions of the Civil Service Reform Act, first time supervisors and/or managers will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period. You may also be required to complete an appropriate supervisory training course within one year of assignment to this position.
