This position reports to the Patient Access Supervisor or Manager. Registration Quality Specialists are members of the Patient Access team dedicated to monitoring and improving patient access workflows related to pre-registration and registration accuracy and compliance. Registration Quality Specialists use reporting tools and worklists to identify and correct registration errors for scheduled patient services across inpatient, ambulatory, and physician practice settings; identify data trends and areas of improvement. Will act as a knowledge resource for registration. Registration Quality Specialists determine root cause of registration errors, communicate findings, and track improvements.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED (Required)
Associate's Degree - in a health or business related field (Preferred)

Minimum Work Experience
3 years - Healthcare experience with patient registration, claims and billing, insurance verification, and insurance referrals and authorization processes. (Required)

2 years - Comprehensive medical and insurance terminology as well as working knowledge of medical insurance plans, and managed care plans. (Required)
Experience related to CPT and ICD coding assignment. (Preferred)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Broad knowledge of registration and administrative processes.
Superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
Strong verbal, interpersonal, and telephone skills.
Experience in healthcare setting and computer knowledge necessary.
Experience working with Microsoft Excel and large data sets.
Attention to detail and ability to multi-task in complex situations.
Demonstrated ability to solve problems independently or as part of a team.
Knowledge of and compliance with confidentiality guidelines and CNMC policies and procedures.
Knowledge of insurance requirements and guidelines for Governmental and non-Governmental carriers.
Previous experience with Cerner, Experian, or other related software programs and electronic medical record systems preferred.
Successful completion all Patient Access training assessments required and meets minimum typing requirements.

Functional Accountabilities

Quality Assurance
1. Utilize registration error worklists to resolve patient registration errors to ensure proper claims payments. Identify accounts with incomplete or inaccurate information and/or data elements. Update systems as needed in accordance with organizational standards for registration accuracy.
2. Manipulate large data sets to track and report registration errors; identify trends and use data to monitor improvement.
3. Ensure accuracy and completeness of pre-registration and registration across multiple specialties and departments in accordance with established organizational workflow standards.
4. Act as a liaison with clinical and patient access departments to resolve all accounts with pre-registration issues prior to the patient's arrival and registration issues with completed appointments.
5. Monitor relevant worklists and ensure all accounts are resolved while meeting departmental standards for productivity and quality.
6. Become subject matter expert on pre-registration and registration requirements.

Patient Services
1. Complete computer-aided, on-line registration with parent/guardian via telephone or in person in professional & courteous manner, as needed.
