Responsibilities

The position serves as a Supervisory IT Specialist and is responsible for software development and design efforts in areas which require extensive and intensive knowledge of accounting, mathematics and statistics, and computers; and may have substantial impact on various highly visible programs.

As a Supervisory IT Specialist, you will:
  • Serve as a senior advisor to the executive-level CIO on high visibility evaluations of when and whether to develop customized applications to support complex oversight needs or pursue commercially available solutions, which may require some customization or workflow changes, to meet business needs.
  • Plan, direct, control, and supervise staff which consists of subordinate supervisory and non-supervisory IT employees.
  • Direct software development and design efforts in areas which require extensive and intensive knowledge of accounting, mathematics and statistics, and computers; and may have substantial impact on various highly visible programs.
  • Initiate and direct special and continuing studies to test, adjust, or improve existing computer software, or devise and implement new software of great complexity.
  • Assign and coordinate the work of the assigned section to diagnose sources of application-associated issues and to develop and implement corrective actions.


Travel Required

25% or less - Travel nationwide under tight deadlines. The incumbent should anticipate frequent walking and standing as a component of this travel.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience: For the GS-15, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Experience managing server infrastructures and data-center operations across one or more platforms (Unix, Linux, Windows); AND
  • Experience participating in the administration, optimization and troubleshooting of corporate information system infrastructures and telecommunication networks.

In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must also show proficiency in 1) attention to detail, 2) customer service, 3) oral communication, and 4) problem solving.

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-15, you must have been at the GS-14 level for 52 weeks.

Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a nontemporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- A one year supervisory probationary period may be required.
- Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
