Position Information

This recruitment is being used to fill multiple Customer Service Representative positions at the new Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center. The Customer Service Representative will provide an array of administrative and customer service support to patrons regarding a variety of programs and services available at the Department of Parks & Recreation and Department of Human Services.

The Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center has something for everyone! For those looking to fuel their competitive side the new facility includes a 50-meter pool with 1-meter, 3-meter, and 5-meter diving, a whirlpool, and two bulkheads to create more opportunities in the pool. The 50-meter pool is FINA compliant for long and short course competitive swimming, water polo, and synchronized swimming. On the other side of the facility, the fun never stops in the family pool. This pool includes a splash pad for tots, a water slide, four (4) 25-yard lap lane areas for swim classes and lessons, in-water volleyball & basketball, and a lazy river.

On dry land, the Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center includes an 8,000-sf. fitness center with a variety of cardio and fitness equipment. There is a fitness studio, three community rooms, and two wet-classrooms for fitness classes, parties, and gatherings. Outdoors, this new development includes 10.5 acres of new parkland for casual use, the extension of the esplanade, and outdoor space for festivals and special events.

Specific Duties:

  • Providing customer service and front desk reception services to members, users and visitors at the community center and by phone, including responding to requests for information, directing visitors to the appropriate locations, and communicating public transit availability;
  • Managing contacts that originate from different sources including in-person visits, telephone and website, including answering telephones and routing phone calls;
  • Providing administrative support such as fitness and membership processing, program and camp registration, facility scheduling, collecting and recording payments, and fee reduction processing;
  • Utilizing Microsoft Office functions to create documents and maintain data in spreadsheets, and other software to create visually appealing materials/signs;
  • Utilizing the Department of Parks and Recreation Scheduling and Registration, and Payment software RecTrac, to facilitate transactions in the facility;
  • Providing information and referral services including explaining services provided and various rules, regulations and guidelines;
  • Opening/Closing of the building and performing room setups/take downs;
  • Responding to emergency situations as appropriate by following emergency plans.

The ideal candidates will have exceptional communication and problem-solving skills, be able to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively, and be adept at providing high level customer service with discretion when dealing with the public.

Selection Criteria

Minimum: High School Diploma/GED, plus Six (6) months' administrative support experience that includes customer service.

Substitution: Successful completion of college coursework can be substituted for the experience requirement on the following basis: two (2) years = six (6) months of experience.

Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and experience in one or more of the following:

  • Managing recreational/sports facilities and programs in a local government setting;
  • Facility reservation and registration experience;
  • Event management experience;
  • Working with scheduling or registration software programs (i.e., Rec Trac);
  • Strong knowledge of lifeguarding and best practices related to pool safety; and
  • CPR, AED and/or First Aid Certification(s).

Special Requirements

A pre-hire background check may be required on all candidates selected for employment. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and/or credit history. You will be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

Additional Information

Work Hours: This is a full-time (40 hrs./week position). Schedules may vary based on the facility’s operations and event schedule and the incumbent may be required to work nights and weekends on occasion.

These are currently permanent over-strength positions which are in the budget for approval in FY2022 as permanent full-time positions. These positions are currently eligible for all County-provided benefits.

Permanent, Full-Time Appointments
All jobs are permanent, full-time appointments unless otherwise stated in the announcement. The following benefits are available:

Paid Leave : Vacation leave is earned at the rate of four hours biweekly. Leave accrual increases every three years until eight hours of leave are earned biweekly for twelve or more years of service. Sick leave is earned at the rate of four hours biweekly. There are eleven paid holidays each year.

Health and Dental Insurance : Three group health insurance plans are offered - a network open access plan, a point-of-service plan, and a health maintenance organization. A group dental insurance plan is also offered. The County pays a significant portion of the premium for these plans for employees and their dependents. A discount vision plan is provided for eye care needs.

Life Insurance : A group term policy of basic life insurance is provided at no cost to employees. The benefit is one times annual salary. Additional life insurance is available with rates based on the employee's age and smoker/non-smoker status.

Retirement : The County offers three vehicles to help you prepare for retirement: a defined benefit plan, a defined contribution plan (401(a)), and a deferred compensation plan (457). The defined benefit plan provides a monthly retirement benefit based on your final average salary and years of service with the County. You contribute a portion of your salary on a pre-tax basis to this plan. General employees contribute 4% of pay; uniformed public safety employees contribute 7.5% of pay. Employees become vested in the plan at five years of service. The County also contributes to this plan.

For general employees, the County also contributes 4.2% of pay to a defined contribution plan (401(a)) . The County also matches your 457 contribution, up to $20 per pay period, in this plan. The 457 deferred compensation plan allows you to set aside money on either a pre-tax (457b) or post-tax (457 Roth) basis up to the IRS annual limit. New employees are automatically enrolled with a pre-tax contribution equal to 2% of your base pay.

Other Benefits: The County also offers health, dependent care, and parking flexible spending accounts; long-term care insurance; tuition assistance; transit and walk/bike to work subsidies; a college savings plan; wellness programs; training opportunities; and a variety of other employee benefits.

Permanent, Part-Time Appointments:
Part time employees who work ten or more hours per week receive paid leave and benefits in proportion to the number of hours worked per week.

Limited Term Appointments:
Benefits are the same as permanent appointments except that the employees do not achieve permanent status.

Temporary Regular Appointments:
Temporary regular employees who work 30 hours or more per week are eligible for health, dental, and basic life insurance as described above. They are also eligible for vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays.

Temporary Seasonal and Occasional Appointments:
Temporary employees who work on a seasonal basis or variable hours receive sick leave, but do not normally receive other paid leave or benefits. Exceptions are noted in individual announcements.
