Community Standards Coordinator

The George Mason University Housing and Residence Life (HRL), in partnership with the Office of Student Conduct, is currently seeking applications from qualified candidates for a Community Standards Coordinator position. About the Department: Housing and Residence Life is a self-supporting auxiliary organization within the University Life unit of George Mason University. HRL serves a highly diverse population of approximately 6,200 students, the majority of which are undergraduates living in over 40 traditional, suite, and apartment-style residence halls in three campuses within the vibrant Northern Virginia area. HRL employs over 170 full-time and graduate staff members and over 350 undergraduate student staff members. About the Position: The Coordinator of Community Standards is an administrative faculty position and is a part of the professional staff team of the office of Student Conduct, within the Division of University Life. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Community Standards, the Coordinator of Community Standards is responsible for implementing the vision and mission of Student Conduct campus-wide with a primary focus on residential living. The coordinator manages a comprehensive educational and accountability program that promotes student success. This role advances the shared effort of providing various means to resolution, proactive education, and holistic support of students. In concert with key stakeholders, the coordinator will assess programmatic effectiveness and develop structures that aides in achieving these goals.

Duties: Staff Training & Supervision: * Assist in training, development, and creation of resources for the Housing & Residence Life staff; * Recruit and train staff and students interested in serving as an advisor, instructor for internal educational sanctions, and the Residential Conduct Board; * Supervise one graduate assistant.

Student Engagement & Learning: * Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Community Standards and other key stakeholders in the marketing and education of the policies and procedures as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct and the Residential Student Handbook; * Assist in the marketing and recruitment of student peer leadership opportunities; * Serve as primary point of contact and advisor for the Residential Adjudication Board; * Develop marketing (both web and print) that educates students, staff, and parents on policies and procedures outlined in the Code of Student Conduct and the Residential Student Handbook; * Provide guidance to neighborhood staff to identify, develop, and implement needs-based programming and initiatives to engage residents and foster community development; * Develop, modify, and maintain educational curriculum related to sanction courses; * Develop and maintain educational sanctions that support all policy violations.

Conduct Adjudication & Management: * Assist in the management and maintenance of centralized communication and data systems; * Serve as case manager for assigned residential area; oversee the delegation of cases to appropriate hearing officers within assigned residential area; * Oversee the Residential Adjudication Board administrative processes; * Adjudicate conduct hearings and implement sanctioning forwarded by the Assistant Director of Community Standards; * Participate in the execution of restorative justice and mediation routes to resolution.

Assessment & Research: * Report on trends within the Residence Halls, as assigned by the Assistant Director for Community Standards; * Connect with peer institutions and research best practices for case adjudication and sanctioning; * Assist in the implementation and evaluation of educational sanctioning initiatives and programs.

UniversityPartners: * Collaborate with campus partners on a peer mediation program that educates student and staff on mediation techniques, resources regarding referrals, and programmatic opportunities; * Collaborate with University Life units on programming related to responsible alcohol consumption and interpersonal violence prevention; * Serve on boards, committees, or councils as delegated by the Assistant Director of Community Standards. * Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: * Mastersdegree in higher education, educational leadership, conflict analysis,law, orrelated field, or equivalent combination of education and experience; * 2 years ofprofessional workexperiencepost masterswithcasemanagement and adjudication; * Experience with problem solving, making complex decisions, and engaging in difficult conversations; * Experienceworking withstudent conduct,academicintegrity, or residential lifeprocesses; * Advance technicalexperienceworking with digital platforms for assessment, availability management, document sharing, distance collaboration, web authoring, and course management systems; * Significant experience with program planning, program execution, and evaluation.
