The Emmes Company, LLC is searching for a Data Management Intern to participate in our Summer 2021 Virtual Internship Program. Therefore our intern can be located anywhere in the United States and will work remotely.

Emmes offers support for the entire process of clinical trials from study design and protocol development through data analysis and manuscript generation.

The Position

We have two Data Management Intern openings. One of our interns will support a new NIH-sponsored prospective observational cohort study on health disparities of pregnant women and their offspring.

The other intern will support The Blood and Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network (BMT CTN or the "Network") that was established in October 2001 to conduct large, multi-institutional clinical trials to improve the outcomes of hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) for patients facing life-threatening disorders. The BMT CTN allows the HCT community to conduct prospective, collaborative, clinical research within an infrastructure expressly designed to:
  • Facilitate effective communication and cooperation among transplant centers and collaborators at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), particularly the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI)
  • Implement and complete well-designed, multicenter trials of high scientific merit
  • Offer participation in HCT clinical trials to patients in all regions of the United States (US)

The Network:
  • Effectively fosters development of innovative and important concepts into well-designed trials that answer questions in an efficient manner
  • Supports timely implementation and completion of those trials
  • Ensures protection of subjects (both donors and recipients)
  • Provides high-quality data and adherence to regulatory requirements in an increasingly complex environment
  • Promotes timely publication of study results, which advances the field of HCT and impacts patient care
  • The BMT CTN and its network of Core and Affiliate Centers play a critical role in improving patient outcomes and advancing the science of HCT

Responsibilities
  • Interns will participate in clinical trials data management activities
  • Responsibilities may include assisting generation and review of technical reports and documents including data tables, figures and listings
  • Perform data audits and quality control review of databases, web sites and spreadsheets
  • Provide administrative support including copying, filing and other related tasks
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Experience
  • Must currently be enrolled in an Undergraduate, Masters or PhD program, in a STEM or Health-Related major
  • Strong problem solving, organizational and analytical skills
  • Demonstrate high attention to detail, abi/lity to multi-task and prioritize workload
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products and basic office equipment including but not limited to MS Word, Excel, copying, and scanning
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including writing, proofing, and editing
  • Previous Clinical Research and/or Public Health experience within an academic or professional work environment desired
  • Preference for individuals who have a background and interest in computer science
