General Description:

The purpose of this position is to advise and oversee the programmatic activities administered by the Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CFCC).  This position provides CSD subject matter and technical expertise related to requirements for and trends in initial certification, certification maintenance, specialty certification, and the mutual recognition agreement. The incumbent supports the certification programs by conducting research and monitoring trends and best practices to ensure the viability and growth of certification programs. The Associate Director, Clinical Certification directs the development and oversees the delivery of communications related to certification programs to stakeholders and the public.

Responsibilities:

  1. Advise and support the CFCC in the development of policies and procedures, and monitor national trends in educational preparation and certification to inform the CFCC’s decision making related to initial certification, continuing competency, specialty certification, the mutual recognition agreement, etc.
  2. Serve as recorder and prepare minutes for the CFCC meetings (committees and full Council); create and deliver presentations at meetings and conferences as appropriate.
  3. Provide oversight of clinical specialty certification program by serving as staff liaison and ex-officio to the CFCC’s Committee on Clinical Specialty Certification (CCSC) and Specialty Certification Boards (SCBs), implementing the program as directed by the committee, and providing guidance and consultation to the CCSC, petitioning groups, and SCBs on the tenets/requirements of the program and to help foster growth of SCBs.
  4. Evaluate file review cases, international applicants, etc. to determine compliance with the certification standards; coordinate processing and follow-ups with the Associate Director for Operations.
  5. Provide consultation to potential applicants, academic program faculty, and other external stakeholders regarding all aspects of the certification standards and CFCC decisions.
  6. Provide CSD subject matter expertise to certification staff regarding the preparation of students and Clinical Fellows for ASHA certification, and the scopes of practices of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology for initial and maintenance of certification.  
  7. Serve as ASHA liaison to and manage the Multilateral Mutual Recognition Agreement process.
  8. Create and edit certification communications, social media posts, website content, etc. 

Qualifications:

Knowledge and skills typically acquired through:

  • A master’s or doctoral degree in either speech-language pathology or audiology 
  • Award of—and possession of for a minimum of 5 years—the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-A or CCC-SLP) from the CCFC 
  • Experience working with and managing staff
  • Experience in the credentialing arena (e.g., state licensure, certification, accreditation, etc.) preferred

Scope and depth of technical skills/knowledge:

  • Collect, interpret, and report statistical data 
  • Analyze and synthesize information from multiple sources 
  • Independently compose communications, including sensitive correspondence 
  • Efficiently use Windows environment and Microsoft Office software, databases, and presentation software to produce reports, documents, and presentations

Scope and depth of nontechnical skills/knowledge:

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including preparation and presentation of reports, minutes, and correspondence 
  • Problem solve independently and with others as needed and proactively about tasks related to job responsibilities 
  • Manage large projects and facilitate change 
  • Organize and prioritize multiple and complex projects and tasks; efficiently manage workload
