Integrated Communications and Marketing (ICM) is a multimedia, service-focused communications and marketing operation that leads in shaping the impression of AARP by providing communications planning, marketing, support and execution for AARP's strategic business units.
Summary

Working under the direction of the Director, AARP Specialized Content, the Senior Program Manager is responsible for task administration and managing delivery of key outputs across a cross-functional matrix team - supporting both business and editorial workstreams for AARP's growing portfolio of audience-specific media properties, channels, and communities.

The Senior Program Manager ensures the achievement of Specialized Content strategic priorities by providing professional level coordination of key operational tasks across audience, business, and product development functions - as well as coordination with and across editorial functions including content development, design, and community management.

The role works particularly closely with AARP's Digital Product team to coordinate product development functions in support of business and editorial needs - including managing CMS updates, prioritizing site feature enhancement needs, and overseeing the maintenance and performance of our digital properties. He or she must also be able to work towards anticipating the needs of the target audiences for each property within the portfolio - and leverage research, data, and other consumer insights to lead discovery, design, and development sprints focused on enhancing the consumer experience servicing them.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinates cross-functionally across project teams to help define and deliver on project goals.
  • Develops and tracks against roadmaps for each property in the portfolio, creating and organizing program-related materials, and identifying resources necessary to complete projects.
  • Oversees roadmaps, prioritization of projects, planning, development, and quality assurance of portfolio products and platforms.
  • Drives the efficient and coordinated execution of initiatives across the portfolio, working to expand properties within it to new markets, increase penetration and deepen engagement among existing audiences, and drive the continuous iterative development of the consumer experiences underpinning them.
  • Influences iterative change through rationale, data, and diplomacy.
  • Manages digital portfolio, creates and organizes program-related materials, and identifies resources necessary to complete projects.
  • Oversees the impacts and interdependencies between teams and work to ensure initiatives meet the goals and objectives of the executive leadership team.
  • Sets the appropriate tone and planning for a project. Oversees and maintain overarching project plans that reflect milestones, schedules, key dates, progress against targets, and risks.
  • Acts as the point of contact for project/program statuses.
  • Reviews business case justifications and understand the cost, benefit, and risks of initiating project/capabilities
  • Works with AARP Digital Product team to ensure proper build out of CMS enhancements and execution of maintenance contracts.
  • Ensures effective tools are utilized for complex projects which fit the size and scope of projects.
  • Continuously refines and adapts approaches in response to feedback, research and insights on new initiatives for the portfolio
  • Anticipates bottlenecks, manages escalation of needs, operates effectively in ambiguous situations, and makes tradeoffs to balance business wants and creative constraints.
Requirements
  • 8+ years of work experience in program, project, or product management, or related functions.
  • BA/BS in business, marketing, IT, or related field preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal with demonstrated ability to build, sustain, and nurture strong, productive working relationships internally and externally.
  • Experience with content management systems and use of automation in email campaigns desired.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to document a range of outputs such as presentations, business requirements, and status reports in a variety of formats such as Word, Excel, Visio, etc. to various other stakeholders, such as technical teams.
  • Familiarity with project and/or task management systems (such as Confluence, Basecamp, Trello, Asana, etc.) a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task required.
