Overview

One of which is the Public Health Outreach Worker who s upports the planning, coordination, and implementation of vaccine education, outreach, and appointment scheduling in underserved communities .

The Opportunity - Examples of Duties

  • Prepare materials for outreach activities with community partners (printing educational materials, coordinating volunteers to assemble mask packages , ensuring training materials are ready for volunteers )


  • Track vaccine-related outreach activities conducted by, or with the help of, Alexandria Health Department
  • Answer calls and emails that come in from the community and either address them or route to appropriate person/people. (will receive training on answering complex COVID-19 vaccination process questions)
  • Develop relationships with community partners who work with underserved residents and send out information regularly
  • Gather information from community members about vaccine hesitancy or access concerns and work with other Alexandria Health Department staff to develop and implement solutions
  • Conduct in-person outreach or tabling around the community to help pre-register people for the vaccine waitlist or for appointments (e.g., at apartment buildings, outside grocery stores, in recreation centers)


  • Support the development and implementation of mobile vaccine unit strategies


The Ideal Candidate

To be minimally qualified for this position all applicants must possess an associate d egree; and two (2) ye ars of relevant experience.

To be considered an ideal candidate, applicants must possess the above as well as; a ttention to detail ; a bility to multi-task ; be flexible and function well under stressful, pressured situations ; a bility to problem-solve independently ; a bility to anticipate future needs of staff and community partners he/she is supporting and take initiative to address those needs ; e xcellent communication skills with colleagues, high level customer service skills with the public and community organizations ; e xtremely proficient in Word, Publisher, PowerPoint and Excel, and is able to learn other software as needed ; b ilingual in English/Spanish or English/Amharic .

Alexandria Health Department (AHD) is one of 35 health districts in Virginia. Notes

*Please note this is a 60 day temporary position with the possibility of an extension.

Schedule:

Work is in-person, 7:45-4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Evenings and weekend work will be necessary on a regular basis to coordinate and implement outreach efforts.
