This position is primarily responsible for the daily accounting activities and for developing and maintaining effective controls to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The position is responsible for ensuring that all monthly, quarterly, and annual reports are completed accurately and timely. This position meets tight deadlines and various accounting duties, which includes the planning and preparation of the Agency's annual financial and compliance audits, financial forecast and budget and other projects as requested. The General Fund Accountant supervises/manages the accounting assistant to ensure work is completed accurately and timely. This position will report to the Controller and will have contact with members of Executive Management Team. To succeed in this position, you must be a self-starter, a problem-solver, have great time management skills, have good interpersonal and communication skills, and work in a non-micromanaged environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Capture all recurring transactions in the General Ledger monthly Reconcile activities with the Agency's operating account banks, trustees, and servicing banks Record GF investments in the General Ledger monthly Manage accounts payable, receivable and payroll processes Reconcile intercompany balances monthly Maintain a fixed assets schedule and record depreciation/amortization Maintain the prepaids and deferred revenue schedules Assist in the annual budgeting process and manage the actual v. budget reporting monthly Responsible for monthly/quarterly/annual closes Coordinate and lead all external audits and compliance reviews Continually look for process improvements including the automation of key accounting process and major reconciliations, processes Make recommendations to the Controller regarding enhancements needed to improve accuracy, productivity and efficiency for the reporting, production, and operating processes associated with the financial close Assist in the implementation of pertinent GASB pronouncements and compliance with any necessary regulatory reporting requirements Other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field or equivalent experience 5 -7 years of experience in accounting/ or and finance Certified Public Accountant (CPA) a plus Possess a strong understanding of accounting principles Must possess strong organizational, analytical, and math/quantitative skills Possess supervisory / management experience Must be able to successfully and autonomously manage projects of a varied and complex nature Must be a self-starter Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Must have good interpersonal skills PI130294745
