The Principal Software Engineer is responsible for leading a team of Software Engineers in development, testing and deployment to deliver components of our Talent Platform. This person will be the key technical resource with an architecture mindset that will be determining which problems to solve, the ideal solution, scope, and resource requirements to drive the product to success. As a Team leader, this person will manage a group of engineers, influence the platform architecture, design and build systems at scale, and work collaboratively with Product and the organization leaders to shape the platform decisions. The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial lead engineer who has experience managing a small team of software engineers. This person will report directly to the CTO. Responsibilities u25cf Lead a team of Software Engineers working together to develop features on our platform, a talent marketplace just going GA with a backlog of enhancement opportunities; provides input on the hiring and work assignments, evaluates performance and manages team member relations. u25cf Responsible for developing team objectives, goals and priorities u25cf Partner with Product, the CTO, and organization leaders to create a product and technology investment roadmap, and then architect and deliver cloud-based robust solutions u25cf Lead agile scrum team(s) of engineers to deliver high quality software against the roadmap. u25cf Perform code reviews, provide technical guidance and mentor engineers, helping them grow their skills in software development. u25cf Work with cloud-, microservices-, and REST/GraphQL API-based stack, using technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, Linkerd, Prometheus, OpenTracing for architecting, building, scaling, and enhancing effectiveness and efficiency of the platform, while in delivering on a well-designed user experience. u25cf Enhance the skills-based matching features of the platform with business intelligence and learning algorithms. u25cf Build a flawless developer experience with interactive documentation and examples, clean interfaces and dashboards, and beautiful widgets u25cf Ensure the production environment is resilient, reliable, safe and scalable, and well-instrumented for monitoring. Skills and Experience u25cf Full-stack engineering experience in any of the following languages: Ruby/Ruby on Rails, Java, JavaScript, Python/Django, C/C++, Scala. u25cf Experience with Postgres and React a plus. u25cf Exceptional ability to work anywhere in the technical stack and delivering quality code u25cf Evidence of exposure to architectural patterns of a large, high-scale web application (eg, well-designed APIs, high volume data pipelines, efficient algorithms). u25cf Strong analytical thinking engineers who have experience with web best practices such as A/B testing, test coverage and automation, agile, dev ops. u25cf 8+ years of industry experience building scalable web software, large-scale distributed systems, APIs. u25cf Strong track record of delivering complex projects in a fast paced, agile environment u25cf 3+ years experience effectively managing, motivating and empowering a distributed team of software engineers in a 24/7 cloud environment u25cf Previous experience having architected, built, and operated distributed systems to solve problems at high scale u25cf Ability to write high-performance production quality code. u25cf Experience and interest in working with other engineers and cross-functional partners in product and design to build a world-class online and offline products. u25cf Proactiveness, good communication with ability to convey complex technical topics to a non-technical audience, collaborative orientation to use technology as an enabler of business outcomes, and fast learning.
