Job Announcement

Coordinates the oversight activities of the Fairfax County Department of Transportation with the Fairfax Connector transit fleet. Ensures that the Fairfax Connector’s fleet maintenance program function in accordance with federal, state and county polices/requirements. Serves as the senior technical and administrative resource for the department on issues related to fleet management, maintenance practices, contractual oversight and performance monitoring of the contracted service provider. Oversees the application of fleet management applications including fuel usage and work order management for vehicle repairs and preventive maintenance. Responsibilities include:

  • Ensures a high-quality transit service through planning, monitoring and evaluating contract compliance of the service provider.
  • Measures and analyzes contract compliance of maintenance performance targets to achieve increased efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Evaluates the fleet maintenance program and its ability to meet the life cycles goals. Seeks ways to improve the overall fleet maintenance efficiency and effectiveness with reviews and inspection.
  • Assists with the coordination of transit fleet maintenance activities with the service provider and other county departments.
  • Maintains revenue and non-revenue maintenance data, fleet rosters, inventories, registrations, replacement schedules and databases.
  • Maintains support equipment inventory, develops and recommends an annual replacement program.
  • Maintains all facility permits, licenses, certifications, operating agreements, and support services.
  • Supports the administrative activities, including the development of budgets, performance reports, resources requirements and other analyses as directed.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, urban, regional or transportation planning, or a closely related field; plus four years of professional experience in civil engineering, urban, regional or transportation planning, or a closely related field.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Background coordinating or managing public or private transit fleets;
  • Experience working in quality assurance/compliance within a fleet maintenance department;
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques relating to the functional area of fleet management (e.g. personnel, budgeting and financial management, contract administration and management);
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques governing contract oversight, including monitoring and reporting of performance measures required by contractual agreements;
  • Ability to communicate to department management or other internal/external departments;
  • Ability to write detailed, accurate reports, or other documents for pertinent areas of administration;
  • Ability to use word processing and presentation software to prepare documents, and to use spreadsheet and database applications to store, manipulate, analyze and present data;
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate data associated with fleet maintenance and identify possible solutions for solving business problems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to do the field observing, walking, standing and bending. Ability to carry items of 25 pounds in weight. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
